you're in norway,

no love for salmon?!

Salmon is expensive. Tuna is dirt cheap.

Have started doing protein shakes now, though, for convenience.

I´ve finally gotten into a good routine with dips (on stand). Having quite a few extra pounds and being a rookie this is very encouraging. Some months ago I could not do 1 real dip with only my own bodyweight. Today I did 3x6 nice and deep. That´s progress:)

Yeah that works. I like cleans because you can do them and not have to worry too much about DL's. Fair point on the problem with spin locks, been there, done that, pulled my shoulder

I'd do cleans if I could, build up some explosive power but there's no point in me trying with the bar I've got at the moment, but it's no biggy.

Looks like I've got my routine, thanks for the help mohawk.

Must admit, never was one for the arm workouts. Different goals and all that. Just stay off my platform and out of my rack and everythings fine :smug:

I'm going to the gym tomorrow, it's been a week and a half without, not cool :hmm:

I try to do a bit on everything, Its usually just a 45 minute work out a day for me, sometimes in the morning, sometimes at night.

Does it make a huge difference what time of day you work out?

I'm gonna take another leaf out of Mehdi's and Reg Park's books and do one working set for the deadlifts, 3 working sets it's too much after squats.

Also, because the room I am in has a low ceiling I will be doing seated presses ratehr than standing.

Now I've just gotta wait a couple of days.

I noticed something. I didn't drink whole week and dropped 10 pounds. I drank 2 beers and 7 vodka/club sodas/lime yesterday and i gain a s pounds.

Sucks because i like drinking.

That'll mostly be due to fluid retention :p

Try it and see how you get on. However, Im betting they only started doing that after a good few years of training. With the weight you are doing, you could easily keep up multiple sets of both.

It's amazing the punishment your back can take as long as you keep good form. I should know :p

Actualy Mehdi's stronlifts you only do one working set of deadlifts, when I was on it it was quite a nice releif after those squats to do be doing loads of deadlifts afterwards.

Yes you would know Mr. Cleans Snatch Squat Deadlift on the same day, day after day. Wouldn't ya? ;):D:p

My football coach wants me to increase my squat from 295 to 405 and increase my bench from 200 to 250 in a matter of 5 months while playing baseball thru-out 60% of it. This could possibly be fun.
You can only do what you can do.

Bench from 200 to 250, that should be do-able depending on how you are currently performing (if you have hit any plateaus etc. Even if you do hit one, altering to incline bench or using DBs will help get through it. Think of it as only 10lbs a month. 2.5lbs a week. Shouldnt be a problem :)

Squats, maybe more of a problem depending on your build. But again, you can mix it up when progress slows or stops by introducing front squats and switching back etc.

Its not meant to be easy :p

Just a quick question.

Is it possible that a poor diet (not a fat diet, but an unbalanced and one sided one) leads to more sensitivity for injuries?

I'm pretty sure it is, but I'd like to know if there are specific nutritients that you require to recover from injuries? I'm guessing proteines...

I'm just wondering, it feels like my body is falling apart :(

I dare say if you are lacking nutrients that your body needs to repair itself after you have been to the gym. And you are consistently missing them out, you're body won't be recovering before you hit the gym again and you'll be at a higher risk of injury.

Don't know if it's any use, but I always make sure to be taking a multivit & mineral tab and omega3/fish oils. When going for protein, if you aren't getting much from the likes of meat etc, then make sure that any supplimental protein has branched chain amino acids (often abreviated to BCAA). They are essential dietary proteins which your body cannot synthesise, so lacking them in the diet could hinder recovery. (mostly speculative here, so obviously dont take as gospel).

What kind of injuries are we talking about? I'd guess that if there are problems, it's probably not the way you're eating, but it could be the way you're training.

Are you still making sure to warmup and stretch before swimming or running?

Certainly one of the most common ways that people injure themselves.

Another thing, if you just aren't too used to either it could happen.

If running you should be sure to have a decent pair of running shoes, running is pretty high impact on the joints.
