The official gym & weightlifting thread! rep #3

Well I don't use the pyramid technique every session! :D

Goals are more definition and general fitness/health.

I have noticed my form suffers when my shoulder starts to fatigue, but generally not before.

I did tear my rotator cuff a few years back though, so I feel my shoulders fatigue quickly..

There is nothing wrong with the deltoids tiring before the pectorals for bench presses.

I got 290x3 on the bench today, followed by 245x8,7,6 & wide grip benches at 195x11,10,8,8. I then did some heavy barbell curls (10 singles at 135lb, super strict, in the old-school "Military" style - heels together, body rigid), and weighted dips (BW+25lb: 6,6,7,6 reps).

In other news, I finally hit the 500lb barrier in the squat last weekend. I got a 500lb single (with belt and knee wraps). My new goal is to squat 600.

:crying::spit::scowl::rollno::atoz:

Some may remember my shoulder surgery last december. That rehab went well and I was released in june. Part of the rehab was an extreme stretching therapy called active release. Well, it worked, I think ? It seems that 3 weeks out from completing therapy my upper bicep tendon "released" from my shoulder.

Surgery is on the 30th. No microsurgery this time. It will be cut open and sutured, assuming there is enough tendon left to stitch up. If there isn't, I may remain permanently "deformed". Yes this is the same shoulder & arm that has had 2 previous rotator repairs & one bicep repair. FML !!!!! Getting old sucks !!!!!!

What's your goals? It just seems like a heck of a lot of reps in a session!

Size and strength aren't directly proportional, so it may be bigger but still the weaker link in the chain. Have you had someone check your form recently?

Did some reading and researched a bit and found out it was a problem with my form.

My elbows were flaring out (imagine a "T" ) putting too much pressure on my deltoids.

I rotated my elbows towards my ribcage (imagine an inverted "V" ) and the difference is amazing!

Congrats! It is nice to go two-wheeling or more on the clean.

I haven't made an update here in a while. My recent maxes include:
Squat (knees wrapped): 520x1, 405x10
Deadlift: 535x1, 515x2, 425x10 (conventional style, with belt)
Press: 215x1 (strict)
Curl: 155x1 (strict)
Front squat: 355x1

Videos of the squats, deadlifts, and press are on Youtube (username; TheChebass88)

I've been on some weird programming for the past month & a half. I've been following an A/B format 3X/week with A = Press & Squat, B = Deadlift, Row, & Curl. I am training without knee wraps for the squat in order to be much stronger. I have some new goals:

Squat: 500x1 (no wraps), 405x20 (this one will take a while, but I'll get it)
Deadlift: 600x1
Press: 225x1

I have some other goals also, but I'm not working focusing on them right now (350 bench, 315 power clean, 405 front squat, etc.)

I assume you low-bar squat?

Nice lifts! What do you weigh?

I neglected my lower body when I first started training and am now paying for it. It's so bad, I can bench more than I squat lol, but I am catching up having been working on them hard for a year or two now.

I train more for looks than strength anyway, but like anyone would like to be strong as well.

I just started intermittent fasting last week. It has been interesting so far, although my macros have not been dialed in so I'm not giving it a fair chance yet.I will dial in my diet this weekend and continue the protocol and see how it works for me.

Yes indeedy. I've tried high-bar squats & don't like them as much. But I've also never trained them either...

Thanks! All of those lifts were done with bodyweight between 250 & 255 (currently 254.0)

Intermittent fasting is challenging. If you stick with it for a while (a few weeks or more), you'll get used to it. It takes a very strong will - especially when someone brings in a box of fresh donuts (or whatever you happen to enjoy eating).

Keep in mind that your body needs fuel to operate. If you are underfed, you may have a crappy training session. If you can, keep a detailed log of your diet & related performance to note when your performance drops off. Best of luck!

I figured because of the difference between your front and back squat. My split is much narrower (525/455), as I come from competetive Olympic Weightlifting. Some of my powerlifting budies are trying to get me to do powerlifting now but I will have to completely relearn squatting and pulling patterns to make better use of my hamstrings. It seems that the low bar squat produces far greater results in the "weight moved" category, but there is a definite learning curve...

I'm cleared by the doc to lift(for real) again. I rehab'd myself this time, no PT at all. Most of the movement is back, I still have some range issues, but they seem to be clearing as time goes by. So, light weights & Yoga were my program this time, and it's working very well. The shoulder/bicep area hasn't fealt this good in years(knock wood). I'm about ready to start bangin' again, for real. Weights and rep ranges my vary, but the intensity will be there.

I asked the doc why my bicep and shoulder still look a bit weird shaped, his words to me were..."It's up to you now to fill it back in". That's all I needed to hear.
