I didn't get to work out much during the first half of the year due to work, but I've managed to make a significant comeback starting in July. I still can't lift as much as I could back in college, but, due to a much healthier diet, I look better than ever. To be honest, I'm not too interested in getting huge again. I'd rather look lean, but very well toned, now.
Dropping under is definitely one of the tougher things to get used to. Getting your hips comfortable with that shock at the bottom of the weight dropping down on your body. That's not even including the rhythm of the lift
If you are experiencing "shock" from weight "dropping on you" in the bottom position of a snatch or clean and jerk, you have a technique issue. Ultimately, in weightlifting, the goal should be to not allow the bar to crash on you. A smooth transition will probably really help you. Based on your numbers, I would assume you do not really have a strength issue, but a speed and accuracy one. I really like high hang work and slow positional work to deal with those issues. Videotape your lifts, and look for and loopy part of the pull, if the bar gets too far out in front of you, you will need to overcorrect in order to pull it back into place, thus causing the crash.
This is a question to the power lifters in here - Why is body weight so much more a factor in bench pressing and squat then it is for dead lifting?
As in how much weight you can lift?
A scarey thing happened to me today at the gym where I workout at. After doing a couple of sets of leg presses I went on a treadmill just to checked my heart rate and it went from 110 bpm to 140 bpm in less than 20 seconds. The treadmill wasn't even mving. So, I felt a little dizzy and made my way to the front counter and asked the attendant to watch over me for 5 minute in case that I pass out. I sat down for 10 minutes, I felt a cold sweat all over and I started to feel better. Did I push myself too hard? Has this ever happened to anyone here?
