The OFFICIAL (kinda) HONDO THREAD!!

Hey guys, i have got my hands on what i belive to be a hondo p-bass body for a project i want to do, im wondering where i can get a pickguard from and will a fender one fit?

Thanks guys

eww. it looks like it is . . . . digesting something.

Here's my Hondo, guys. Do I get a number? I will admit this picture is scanned in because it was taken circa 1986 or so, back when I got the Hondo. It is slightly more beaten up (but not dramatically so) has had the Hondo logo sanded off by some silly kid, said silly kid then sold it to a friend who installed a completely useless 3-way switch on the pickguard, bought it back 2 years later, and then had to replace all the tuning heads about a year ago. The tone knob is useless and has been cut out of the signal chain, and the volume knob is always turned all the way up (it does at least work now, I think). I used it on the first cut on my band's latest CD because it had such a delightful thump to it. Much to my surprise, the bass has a great, fat, nasty tone, growls like a wildcat when I want it to, and I am about this far from completely re-building the electronics and bringing it back into my stage lineup. Yes, I would play this next to my 1973 Rickenbacker and my NS20004. I know Hondo made a lot of junk, but dang, it's really hard to totally screw up a P-Bass copy.

Here's a craigslist player that I just got back from the tech. New Fender 62 P Bass pickups, new pots, jack and bridge. Original pickups were USA Demarzio's, says so right on the backside of the covers. Originals still sounded good to my untrained ear, but since I was bringing her back to life I wanted new, new, new! Bridge had to be re-centered. I'm just happy that she is playable.

When I saw it on CL i just had to have it! Love maple necks and the natural finish. The poly is so thick on these old basses, it pretty much protects it like armor!

Yep, it's a fret of a different fretwire thickness that already has been whacked in by someone less shy than me... the edges stand out of the wood.
I could of course rip all frets out and make it a fretless...

My first bass was a red Flying V with a fender-style neck with "Hondo" on the headstock. I have no reason to believe that the neck was original to the body, but I also have no reason to believe it wasn't.

sold this one. the "ric" looked really :D , but...... it played like :atoz:.
that was 2001, so don´t wonder about the bad pic. bought and sold this bass on evilbay (sold it with ++++ ;) )

I know this thread is kind of... dead, but, how much did you pay for that Ric copy? I've been looking at some Hondos online to serve as beaters, and I have a feeling that I'm gunna go with a Hondo. Thank you.
