The OFFICIAL (kinda) HONDO THREAD!!

Does anyone know if the Hondo Ric's came with brass or plastic nuts? My Longhorn was from the same era and it has a brass nut. Since I am working on fixing up my Hondo Ric, it would be nice to have the original style nut on it.
ANY help would be appriciated.

Quick Question and a little help... recently picked up a short scale what appears to be an 815 model (at least that's what it looks like compared to pics I can find online) for 25 bucks at a yard sale. got home plugged it in and it does work, but its in need of some lovin. One of the previous owners repainted it in a camo (rattle can) scheme and it looks like a pile, but I do like the sound. The Hondo emblem on the head is simply the "H" and says HONDO underneath it. Any ideas about what year (approx) it could be, anybody? Is this something worth working on? the input jack is loose, the tone/volume controls are staticy (is that a word) as hell. I'll take a pic and post it later. any thoughts would be great! thanks

any help on what this is or what it could be would be greatly appreciated. I originally picked it up for my son, he has been learning to play on a squire strat, but wanted to try bass out. I stumbled on this and with the short scale I figured what the hell, but I'm having a blast playing it!

No pics showing up on my end.....
Nevermind...Now they're there!!...

I had my home burglarized last week and the thief took a Hondo bass that I purchased in 1982/1983.
I'm trying to remember what model it was. I think it was a Deluxe ... but can't remember the rest.

Does anybody recognize this description:
- 4 strings
- 3 chrome knobs (volume, tone, etc.)
- 2 long rectangular black pickups (both covered the entire width of the 4 strings w/ eight metalic electrodes on each [2 per string])
- black fretboard, woodstained neck backside
- black body
- black head
- gold and chrome bridge, strings pass through body
- chrome tuners

I'll see if I can find a photo of it on a backup somewhere (the laptop was jacked too...).

At least I have an excuse for a new bass now!

Dude, this is exactly the reason I went though all of my basses, took pictures, serial numbers and cataloged everything right down to when it was purchased, purchase price and where it was purchased. dstu, I am so very sorry to hear about this. I hope something can be done. Keep a watch out on e-bay, the local stores and craigs list

I finally finished the Hondo. Needs a good cleaning and polishing. I'm ready for my official Hondo Cult number. Pics below. :)

It's got a custom tone circuit with 2 capacitors. One to roll off some of the highs while boosting the lows, and another to boost the midrange, giving every string the same volume, regardless of attack. After the neck's 100% set, I'll take photos of the tone circuit. It's gratifying to finally finish a project. Worth it? Probably not. But I learned a lot in the process.

I've just got an old, busted up Hondo and want to renovate it, I have all the parts but there's no wiring diagrams anywhere, or anywhere to buy a replacement scratchplate.

Any ideas

It's a Hondo II btw

Cheers

A Fender pickguard might work if the P pickups are in the same place. You'd need a Fender American one because the truss adjustment is at the neck heel. Mine had a humbucker, so I had to order a blank P pickguard from Warmoth and cut it myself. There's a guy at Pickguard Heaven: Pickguards for Every Guitar who may be able to help you. He's got a couple of Hondo pickguards listed on the page. I was in contact with him awhile back, but he didn't have one for my particular bass. You might get lucky.
