The OFFICIAL (kinda) HONDO THREAD!!

Just got another Hondo Fame Series 830,waiting for it to get here. Mostly bought it just for the neck,so I could put a Hondo Fame Series 830 neck,on the one I have that has a Mighty Mite neck. Wanted to get the neck, that has Fame Series logo, only it is the black painted head stock, and black tuners. Plan on putting the brass tuners, off my Mighty Mite neck,on the black neck, when it gets here? Will post pictures, when I get the neck and tuners replaced. The other Hondo Fame Series 830,is the all black finish, and black hardware. Here are some pictures,of the black Fame Series 830 of the sellers pictures.

Just picked up a Hondo acoustic bass over the weekend. Looks like it's a model H1000. It's in pretty good shape, a few chips along the neck and a little dent on the face. It's fun to play, sounds decent on its own, and sounds really good plugged in.

By the Way, the Flying V hanging on the wall is a Hondo guitar, would love to get my hands on a Hondo Flying V bass too!

I have a hondo deluxe 880 that I saved from the pawn shop. It's an explorer body with P pups. It had a stripped truss rod, some high frets, high action, scratchy pots, and shrill clanky pickups lacking in low mids.

It was perfect to do up for a metal project I'm in (ColliderPA on bandcamp) because I'm not willing to subject my fenders to drop C tuning- too much tension on a standard 5 string set and not enough on a standard 4 string. I was playing a stingray 5- I used a 6 string set and threw away the E, but almost never used the bottom string.

The hondo with a good setup and some 1/4 pounders is cool looking, easy to play, and sits just right in the mix. I even did some recording with it!

Can anyone be able to provide the dimensions of the nut of the Fame Series 871 bass? The nut on my bass crack into several pieces and I currently can't find those pieces.

Need the length, width, height and "E to G" dimensions.

Thanks in advanced

Do you know if it comes from the 70s? I can buy it for 100$. What do you think?

For $100 that’s a steal- it will play better than any new $100 bass! My P style hondo has a nice if kinda 70s style neck, and stays in tune.

I did have to shield the cavities to get it quiet and also replaced all the electrics etc with good new parts and a 1/4 pounder pickup, so mine was kind of a project.

That is good looking in the natural wood finish and would compliment any style of music.

Looks Like a Hondo 830. Good price from 2010 was $99 so I guess you can't go wrong with $100 now

EDIT - I believe they were also part of the "Deluxe Series" and it is probably Late 70's early 80's. Later models went with the Gotoh style tuners. Earlier ones used the Fender Elephant ear style

A little back story on this one.Bought this one new in 85,I believe I paid $179. I quit playing in 90 and sold it in 95. I bought it back on CL last summer. I was pretty sure it was mine and when I pulled the pickgaurd my initials were there(a tip from my luthier in case your bass is stolen and the serial number is removed)the neck is a bit wonky around the 7th fret on the g but otherwise looks like new.

LOVE the tuners!
Got at least one bass similar to that one.
Thanks If you look close there is a cracked out piece near the nut and truss rod nut,I didn't see that when I owned it but at a show in Chicago a roadie knocked it off it's stand,it slide down a flight of stairs on its string s ,headstock first, surprisingly it was still in tune.I did get a sorry dude from the roady:mad:

Had a couple Hondo Fame basses, and actually thought they were decent basses. Came across one few weeks ago,and kicked it around, and decided to get another one, because this one looked to be in nice condition according to pictures? It should be here next week? It is a wine red with gold hardware, and really caught my eye? If you click on the site you can see a picture, from the ad. Think it was NBD shipped from west coast to Ohio?
