I think it'll live with the black for a bit, but I like the idea of being able to swap as the mood strikes ;)

I placed my order in mid-January. Looks like it's due to arrive on next Wednesday...While I wait, I'm mocking up a Jake with similar specs, but a maple fingerboard (...or a Frog...or that Sputnik I've been eyeing...:woot:).

Received my Elwood L5a just today. Love the sound, cut through the mix, our guitarist love it also. Incredibly light in weight, wide range of tone (hauesell fat jazzbucker and Delano 3 band pre), smooth all through the neck. However I come across an issue: The last bass I own is a Mayones be-5, comparing with the Maruszczyk, it needs a heavier punch, the whole bass felt stiffer (dunno if this is the right word to describe). When I'm trying out my Elwood today, I find that playing it the same way as I play the mayones causes the strings to rattle (I'm from Taiwan and I'm not sure if this is the right term to describe), and raising the action only improve a bit. Guess I need more time adjusting both my action and my punch. Anyone came across this issue?

Congrats on your new bass and don't forget the pictures! ;)

My basses also came with pretty low action. I believe Adrian likes a little rattle here and there. I am sure you or a tech can set the bass up to your liking. :thumbsup:

Nice! Mine was ordered mid Jan as well, so hopefully I will get some news soon!

Ok, here's where I am. Trying to decide and cut cost while staying happy with the build. Right now it's a little higher than I would prefer to pay but no doubt worth it. Thoughts please...... :)

On those two, that's all that is different. Some prefer the logo in the top pic. I like that but I'd prefer it at the tip of the headstock if I went with that one. Just doesn't sit right with me where it's located in that image.

I'm about $300.00 over where I was hoping to order at. Not much to strip . I could change the fretboard wood from rosewood to something else that might be more cost effective but how much would that hurt my tone goals? I could change the finish. Instead of the Hipshot bridge, I could just go with one of the default stock options. A different bridge could be added later. A Maruszczyk split coil is the choice for now.

What's got me wondering the most is how it going to sound. I've never really been much of a P Bass guy and if I can get one that I'm pleased with, I may not do another. Seeking more of a vintage character.

That's a great looking P. I would recommend that you don't cut any corners just to end up with something you won't be totally happy with.

I'm actually finding it very hard to cut anything else but some of the options that I am thinking about doing without are things that can be easily added down the road. Maybe is less expensively. For example, strap locks and the bridge. All of my straps are Dunlop equipped and I typically just purchase the Dunlop buttons in the appropriate finish to swap out buttons on the incoming bass.

Swapping out those buttons would cost me less than $5.00 and a little screwdriver time. The bridge would not but hard to do either. I may even be able to find the same bridge for a lot less. That's the sort of options that I am considering changing. It wouldn't save a HUGE amount of money but I might take the money saved and put it back into the build for something like carbon rods in the neck. Here's where I am cost-wise at the moment......

I could also maybe consider changing the finish but I dig what I'm working with right now. Another small concession might be going with no dots on the fretboard. Decisions, decisions.....
