Thanks! Yes, it's so pretty! I have a Stingray that has a similar green/blue + black hardware combo and really like the look. But this one has a Wenge neck and fingerboard - to me that's the prettiest wood out there for necks. Chocolately, course grain that looks pretty but plays smooth! Very stiff too, so with the carbon fiber rods inside, hopefully neck adjustments will be minimal! Yeah the neck and fingerboard woods and the pickups/switches are not in the configurator. I did indeed have to ask Adrian for both, but know they do Wenge on Frogs and have seen them do this pickup/switch configuration before, so I had a feeling it wouldn't be a big deal. I'm not sure what the markup is exactly, as I just got the quote for this configuration straight out of the gate - I'd need something to compare it to. I also asked slightly late to switch to the KSM Foundation Bridge, but Adrian was not all that excited about messing around with unfamiliar hardware. I might install one myself at some point soon, I have always wanted to try one, I have heard such good things. Maybe on my Stingray first.

Preliminary thoughts - very versatile. My favorites have been double humbucker with coils in series and the neck SC2 with the bridge SC1, which should be the closer two coils. I am out for the weekend, but if I'm lucky and I get time tonight I'll record some samples.

Question to those of you who have bought - how much customization is possible before Maru says no thank you?

Specifically, I'd like to do a P/MM, but with stacked volume and tone and a three way switch instead of a blend. I'd also like to move the MM right next to the P instead of closer to the bridge. Not sure if that's over the line.

We've already seen custom pickup positions, stacked knobs and many switches, so I strongly assume that your wishes are workable. Easiest way to be sure would be to send Adrian an email. :thumbsup:

My guess is ... generally absolutely no problem however be really sure to send the Boss a drawing of exact position you mean. They're busy as ******* and won't have time to "try around" , so for them to say yes you will need to have the job "done" before you get in touch.

in 3 years the only thing he said no for was custom shape and compound radius. So you're likely on the safe...

Has anyone had especially bad issues with getting certain strings to intonate correctly? When I first got my Elwood, no amount of tweaking could get the B string to intonate correctly (saddle pushed as far back in the bridge). I changed strings, trying to eliminate the possibility of a wonky string. No luck.
Brought it to my tech and come to find out that the bass is closer to 33 3/4" scale length and even putting a temporary spacer to extend the length of the B string isn't enough. My tech thinks the best fix is to fill/redrill to reposition the bridge in the "correct" place.
My emails to Adrian have been disappointing to say the least. Started by blaming "cheap Chinese tuners" and stating that a few cents off shouldn't be a big problem. The bass was intended for musical theatre and recording, where a few cents off isn't acceptable.
In his most recent email, he's saying I should try different strings and that the bass can take 1.5yrs to settle. And that there's nothing more he can do.
Thoughts from the basshive?

I'm still having this issue on my 2 months old Elwood, ever since it's arrival!! Wow, what a timing of your post. I'm trying to get this resolved via dealer and Adrian as we speak. Anyway, I can't actually play the bass as it's not in tune. Something is off with D and G strings. Had it at 3 repair shops and 4 setups done and nada.

Sorry to hear about your problems.

All I can say is that I have not encountered anything like that with my 3 M. basses. The trustworthy and very knowledgeable tech who sets them up for me has not reported anything in this respect either.

I have had issues with the tailpiece of my Frog and a pot on my Elwood, but they were quickly resolved with Adrian's assistance.

So, definitely there is something going on. The tech heard what I was hearing at first. He acknowledged that 2-3 times while playing octaves. It was especially prominent on and around the 5th fret, on the G string. Then he gave me a lecture on how guitars are practically never in tune on the entire fretboard, etc, etc. That and some other BS. He then followed with other stories. Ehh. Anyway, he raised the pickups a little bit (which now they require a padding job from underneath), and claims all is resolved. I took the bass back and went to volleyball game (I was already running late).

I'll check it out tomorrow morning and make an assessment at that time. I'm really frustrated as this is a $2400+ instrument that I'm simply not happy with. I can't sell it (and take a loss as I'm afraid, my buyer will hear the same and not be happy either). So, here I am with a bass, I can't enjoy playing as it's NOT in tune!
