The Official MARUSZCZYK CLUB!

Hi all, just started going through the thread and considering to build an Elwood L 32" scale 5 string with Delano PMVC 5 FE/M2 and Delano MC 5 FE/M2 pickups. I prefer tighter string spacing 17mm is ideal but 18mm is good too. I don't care if the strings aren't in the center of the pole pieces cosmetically but I am concerned if it may effect the tone. Anyone here go for tighter string spacing with these style pickups and have any issues?

I sent Adrian an email and didn't get much of a detailed response so I wanted to ask here. In his defense I was comparing it to the Aguilar set and my question may not have been very clear.

As @4stringfarley already pointed out, I also doubt the position of the strings over the pole pieces has an influence on the sound. However, I dislike the look of basses with off-center strings.

I used to have an Elwood L similar to the one you are about to order, but I chose J pickups with closed covers.

Yea now I'm struggling to like my idea sinde I want 17mm spacing and starting to over think this. I'm thinking to go with the xtenders but I can't get past the fact that this bass will be married to these pickups because of the routing. I've never actually changed pickups on any of my basses though. I just love the tone from the pmvc 5 fe/m2 and mc 5 fe in all the videos. Not sure how different either of these are from the PC 5 he/m2 and mc 5 he/s.

If the pickup choice is the only thing left to clarify, contact Adrian. I am sure he will have some good advice and perhaps a recommendation for you.

I did and he responded very quickly too. He said the xtenders are the HE series and they're one of the best pickups in his opinion. I'll need to listen to more videos because I really like the tone from the FEs.

The Delano open pole Pickups come in various string spacing, if you order a 17mm string spacing it will be centered for that build. I had a Jake 5A, and they were centered nicely.

I did the same thing, but for a different reason. While I like the symmetry of strings aligned with pole pieces, the real reason for getting closed covers is that I have had bad luck on a couple of basses regarding exposed pole pieces and unwanted noise from my fingers or the strings touching them.

Yes, my bass arrived today! It was bitter sweet? I was highly pissed when I saw the condition of the box.

It was obvious that my bass was dropped headstock first and dragged in dirt.
I will play it later to make sure that everything is ok.

It looks exactly like the couch picture and I love it!
Have you had a chance to spend some time with your new bass? Did it make it through unscathed?

Did you request it from Adrian? From my few emails back and forth asking about this and some other things he never mentioned that as a possibility. I've pretty much settled on going with the xtenders. Sleeping on it to be 100%.

I noticed while playing with the configurator during lunch at work today that theres a price increase scheduled to take place June 1. I hope the increase in production costs dosent cut into sales too much for the company.

Current lead time is out 4 months for custom orders, I am thinking the price increase is probably justified based on demand.

Despite the box being dropped top side, and being within inches of being split completely open, the bass was not broken or harmed from what I can see as of date.

I spent about 4 hours playing it yesterday, and it is everything that I hoped and imagined it would be.

The build quality is simply amazing! The tone of my bass is uncolored (Aguilar OBP3 preamp), and with the Times Square pickups it is extremely articulate. The sweet tone is what I envisioned when I chose my options.

I'm a stickler when it comes to my basses having proper weight and balance. The weight and balance of my bass is spot on. The balance of my bass is perfection. The playability of my bass is as good as it gets!

My Maruszczyk is the best bass that I own, and I love all of my keeper basses.

P.S. - Adrian has contacted FedEx to find out what happened. He told me that he has never seen a box that he shipped with that type of damage !!!! I'm not being a drama king, the damage was disturbing and it was dragged an covered in dirt.

Where did you see that? I looked at the configurator, and I didn't see it.

Did you post pictures of it here somewhere?
