The Official MARUSZCZYK CLUB!

Analysis paralysis y'all... 5 string Jake, which bridge and tuners? 19mm spacing allows for the "standard big" or any of the allowed hipshot variants, of whic I only like the B and Vintage. 18mm spacing changes the standard option to "F style" or a small upcharge for "monorail", again with the other hipshot options. I honestly don't know which spacing, but bridge style could be a factor.

Tuners... Donovan at Fretspot says the standard ones are just fine, but heavier, and a LOT cheaper, and he sees no reason to upgrade, whereas others in the thread say they squeak and are poor quality...

Anyone want to throw out some advice?

Standard tuners are ok (after you oil them, lol) but stock bridge is not as good - replaced with Hipshot A-style, changing string spacing after every change of mood :D

Just submitted my deposit through Fretspot. And here she is:

One note, she will be a lefty.

I ditched the flame maple and abalone blocks, but kept abalone for the fretboard dots. Looked to busy with the black pearl guard that I saw and fell in love with. Went with the hipshot vintage bridge, it is what is on my current 5 string and no issues, and hipshot 1/2 ultralight Y style tuners, and they look awesome to me. Aaaaaand now we wait!

Yo! Just received my bass!! I love it (didn't had the change to hear it though) but there is one thing that I don't understand. I asked for nitro finish but on the papers it says high gloss. There is also an option for matte finish. My question would be:

Is high gloss also nitro and what is a matte finish?

Besides that it is a beautiful bass and I love the 33 inch scale. Can't wait to try out and hear the sound!!

You can do either high gloss or matte in either nitro or poly. Matte is the more "satin" finish, not full gloss.

Maruszczyk only offers Nitro as a sort of Gloss cause its polished in the process.

Gloss and Satin are both Poly with them.
OK thanks didn't know that. Probably harder / not worthwhile to do matte / satin on nitro (should be possible, I would think, might be more work though). Anyway let's see pics of that glossy new bass! :)

I have small knowledge of Nitro to be honest. Only one customer ever asked that. Satin / Nitro is not possible to my knowledge , Adrian told me that without polishing it looks very bad.

That's what I love about this place, always learning new details and handed-down wisdom from other members! :)

its that whole "bass dealer/Selling pro" and Adrian sort of "took me under wing" , was always (and still is) very generous with informations regarding the biz and how building basses actually works. Ultra knowledgable person.

i'm very lucky and grateful to know him and be dealing his instruments. Taught me a lot.

So nitro is only a clear coat????

From what I remember the nitrocellulose lacquer is applied in various layers including the top coat. The main difference are the solvents used in the lacquer; as already said applying nitrocellulose lacquer without any protection is not the healthiest thing.

As previously said the nictro-lacquer ist glossy in the case of Maruszczyk - you might see a slight difference when you compare 1:1 between nitro and poly as the poly looks a bit more glossy.

By the way it is also possible to have matt nitro-finish (had that on a satin PRS some year's ago) but it is not very durable as they usually apply less layers. By the way - Gibson still offers matt nitro-finishes in their tribute series. The point is, it does not look very premium in my opinion

Let's put it that way - nitro is not as durable or hard as poly but this does not necessarily mean that the finish wears off quickly. It mainly depends on the thickness of the finish - in case of the roadworn series the finish was really thin mainly for cost reasons, the visible wear after a short period of time was the result which some liked and some not.

If the nitro finish is done properly In wouldn't expect a "aged finish" at short-term.
