My new baby. :smug:
Woah! Nice! Is that a Chianti burst? Also, what's the fingerboard? Mac ebony? Looks like an ash body, maple neck. Man, that looks similar to one of my 535s right down to the maple burl top, except mine has the gaboon (jet black) ebony board. It's an absolutely killer bass tho.

So, what better way to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon than with the bass (and the camera)? Got some "me" time in the living room, so I goofed around with my new GB Shuttle 6.0-12T and the Epifani UL310.

The bass is wearing fresh MTD strings (.135 taper-.105-.085-.065-.045-.030) and Duracell batteries. Stereo mic on the M-Audio MT24/96 is ~ 4' away from the rig. Instrument EQ is flat except for bass, which sits @ ~ 7/10. Amp EQ is flat, and the pre-gain is advanced to ~ 2 o'clock. Tweeter on each cab is turned down to ~ 10 o'clock. Please....pleeeze excuse the rushing and overall sloppy playing. :ninja: This was just stream-of-consciousness stuff in my living room while Mother Nature let us have it outside.

Both great clips Jerry!!! And pics as well too!

I don't know if you're looking for an A/B type review of the tones, but I think they both sound fantastic. With that gear and your playing, it's hard not to. But I'm going to give the cab edge to the Epifani, but just by a hair. Initially, I thought the GB cab sounded better, but I think I would distinguish them as saying the GB is more clear/natural, while the Epifani is warmer, which I prefer personally. But really, both great sounding cabs, and really great clips. Thanks for posting!!:hyper:

So, what better way...
The mids sound more pronounced in the GB and the high end is clearer on the Epi. I'd have expected exactly that. What'd be interesting, is now see if you can get the Epi rig to have a similar mid presence by bumping... oh.... say... somewhere in the 400Hz range. Then you'd also have that nice Epi high end as well as the mid presence.

I have the 3.0 10T combo and I must say it's a pretty decent sounding ultralight combo but I don't have much love for that tweeter. It reminds me of the ones in the SWR combos. Pretty much good for hiss/clack and not much else. I've debated disconnecting the crossover in my cab and just running the 10 full range. :)

Thanks, DRay...you're too kind...it was definitely hack playing. :D I really dig this amp through both cabs. Totally distinct personalities, of course. In a band setting the 12" sounds terrific. The 310 is a little beast (well, not so little, I guess) - I just love the thing - and I really dig what the tube preamp does for the tone. I've done small gigs with this head and both cabs now, and I definitely prefer the MTD through the Epifani cab. However, the Roscoes sound awesome through that 12".

I played through the 3.0, and it didn't do much for me. For my ears the true joy in these tiny amps is in the tube pre. It's the same reason I easily passed on the MAX...and it's not generally like me to choose the lesser expensive of two options. :)

Catch up? Youbetcha, Phil...the 902 is just waiting for you. :)

The Shuttle has been on a few gigs already, and will definitely see a lot more action. I'm also looking forward to driving two cabs with this thing to see how it does in some louder situations. On the small dates - for which I generally use one or both Roscoes - the 12" cab is perfect, and I just love load-in/out. 32 lbs and only a power connection...hoo-ahh. On one date I didn't even take my cart....single trip w/ bass, amp, & gear bag...priceless. :D

Anyway, back on topic... with the MTD's, so far I prefer the Epifani cab over the GB 12 (although the 535, with it's massive low/low-mid presence, sounds great with the 12"). On the one gig (so far) I've used the 635 + 6.0 & UL310, it sounded awesome.

So this week I picked up an M-Audio [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. Got to play around a bit last night, and it was fun. Great toy, and a terrific practice/rehearsal tool. Here's the 535, running through the trusty Radial JDI into the M-Audio interface.

Off-topic, but if you're interested here's a take on a Latin thing with another instrument.

Nice! :)

Great solo on the latin thing, and the backup parts bang on as well. You're a monster! What/which bass/basses was/were that? Sounds great.

Cheers,
Cameron

Thanks, Cameron...very kind words. I'm a monster, alright...a fumble-fingered Frankenstein. :D

The Latin thing was with my Roscoe. All of the backing tracks are samples from M-Audio's "Session" software. Select a key & tempo, drag the parts to each track, and have at it. The Cha/Mambo thing has drums, percussion, piano, & guitar. The "alt-rock" track with the MTD is even more basic - just keys and drums. Definitely a fun toy, and with the JDI, it seems to very accurately capture the sound of "me"....for better or worse. :)

I just picked up a early model MTD 635 and the bridge adjustment screws are a little wack, it doesn't have a B style bridge on it ( not sure what kind it is). I want to replace it with a B-style but I'm not sure which one is standard, is it the .708 or the .750 string spacing?
Thx, Will
