The Official MTD USA Thread

This is the first time in 5 years I had a bass with a neck other than maple, I always have bad experience with other woods. Either the sound, the feel or stability, but this ash neck is all there. As I mention in my post after recieving the wenge-wenge neck 535, the wenge has too much compression for me. The ash is more open but with the mids the wenge has. Maybe it has something to do with the Maple board too. I just can't stay away from the maple boards. Their clean look, slick feel, and that 'clicking' sound, and on top of all that it really contrasts to the Walnut top very nicely.

I think the darker Ash on the body is cool too

Hi everyone...

Does the MTD case fit for other basses? I know it can't fit my singlecut, but can it fit other common basses, such as: P-Bass, J-Bass, EBMM, etc?

Coz I have two MTD case with me right now, one is a spankin brand new MTD Brown Case, and one MTD zero gravity case, and I'm planning to go home overseas next month, and I can't take any of them with me.

So if it fits other basses, I'll put it up FS, but if not, I'll just give it away to any of you guys that needs them, just pay me the shipping money.

I'm serious... It's better than I have to throw it in the trash.

I'll take the zero g case if you're giving it away... I have more hard cases than I know what to do with...

Thanks

Anton

It's mine!!!! :hiding:

what a lovely MTD...congrats.

I've got an info that MTD cases won't fit any other bass without any issue, so I'll be giving it away to any of you guys. Looks like the 0-G has been taken by TBer Blessedbassist, and the brown case is still here.

I can ship the Brown case anytime, I don't need it anymore. But I just realized, I only have one box to ship two case :hmm: So, whoever take the Brown case must pay for packing too, I'll have UPS profesionally pack them, because it's the same price as I buy a box and pack it myself, not to mention the brown one is as good as new, so It'll be a shame not to have it well packed.

So, let me know guys. And if you are generous enough to give me a gigbag (any decent one) in return (so it will be like a trade, both of us don't have to pay me anything) it'll be awesome, coz I need one right now. But... That's just IF... I'm stil giving it away for free. So come and get it!!!

I was absolutely struggling with trying to find a way to make a wenge neck work for me because I loved one of its characteristics. Mike suggested ash. At the time, I'd never even heard of that in a neck wood (tho I later found out it wasn't all that unusual), so I was generally kinda' uncomfortable with the idea, but took the leap of faith purely on my knowledge of how much time Mike has spent thumping woods, building basses, and observing the results.

How did Mike describe the ash neck sound? I have a wenge neck/fb bass, and while I love the clarity and grind, the higher notes just didn't have enough booty under them. I love the feeling of wenge too.

Unfortunately, all the MTD's I've played have been wenge/wenge, otherwise I may have bought one. Seems like his ash neckers are almost as common on the basses coming out of his shop.

"the mid push of wenge without the choke". Pretty much his exact words, and also the truth IME. IMHO the ash neck will not have the problem you (and I) have with the wenge with the higher notes (that's that upper mid choke/compression wenge has... sounds fantastic for slap, but at least for my playing style, it really hurts my fingerstyle tone.)

So I just picked up a new MTD that has an alder/bloodwood body and maple neck/ebony board and it sounds incredible.

I've always been a fan of walnut tops, and I was just wondering if anyone had experience with both bloodwood and walnut and could tell me what the difference (sonically) between them?
