Oh I see, thanks Tom... Great pics, btw.

HerculesHi there,
As I own a few (9) basses now inluding 4 MTDs 535, I'd like to have them ready to be plugged into my amp, or just ready to play.
I'm looking for guitar stands which are stable, reliable and protect the finish of my basses (I own a few with nitro finish).
What guitar stands do you use to hang your MTDs (and/or other basses) ?
Thanks a lot!
Patron. Chilled. Nothing smoother.
Guys, we totally need to start a tequila thread (like the single-malt scotch one)... if one doesn't already exist... I wanna' start gathering recs for great Tequilas, but that could (should) get into a LOT of posts, so I'd rather have a thread dedicated to it than mixing it up into an MTD thread. Anyone experienced in Tequilas wanna' take that on and start it with a post of all their faves?![]()
Yes there is...Corraleo...reposado OR Anejo...
I'll have to try them then!![]()
Dude, that's a beautiful bass! But then again, it's an MTD, so that's expected.A new addition to the family:
MTD 535-24
Ash body
Ash neck
Tasmanian Blackheart Sasafras top
Birdseye maple fingerboard w/vintage tint
Strung E-C

I ordered this one through Joel at the Grooveshoppe who was great as usual. There was a small mishap with the order / bass that needed rectification and Joel and Mike were super helpful in getting it all sorted out. I have been playing the basses ass off this afternoon and its fantastic. The tone of ash/ash/maple is really my thing, I am really happy with it. Its a lot more aggressive than my other MTD (Alder/Walnut/wenge/maple), but still has that full range sound that I think is great with MTDs. Anyway, without further ado, the pics:
^^^^ I love that top. Beautiful bass.
Beauty of a bass.
What is expected of an ash neck compared maple?
Correct. Some other words Mike has used with me personally is "all the punch of wenge, but without the choke". Those were the magic words for me when I was shopping for my last bass (long story), as, at the time, I'd never heard of an ash neck before (tho I later found out it was not as off the beaten path as I thought), and I was looking for exactly that... the wenge punch, but without the associated compression.Well, in Mike's (or whoever wrote the text on the MTD site) words:
"A wenge neck and board add compression and focus to the speaking voice of the bass. A maple neck and rosewood board is more open and slightly warmer than a maple neck and maple board. Ebony on maple is very quick in its response with lots of snap. I have been trying ash as a neck material and found it to be leaning towards wenge but more open."
From my admittedly limited experience with ash necks I'd say I agree with the notion that ash has the punch of wenge (a neck wood that MTDs seem to often be associated with) but with less compression.
Well, not really much more than a wordy "+1", I guess.I've never actually played an MTD with a maple neck, but I can't imagine anything sounding better to my ears than a wenge or ash neck. I'd suggest that if you're used to maple necks and like them you'd find ash to be the perfect compromise (in a best-of-both-worlds sense) between maple and wenge. I'm sure Vic has a few words to add on the subject (knowing how much he loves his ash/ash combo).![]()
You can order multiple laminates, but they arn't ebony / purpleheart like they look. This was one of the points that I discussed with Mike as I was hoping to get a light brown wood (alder for example) on top of a darker wood (wenge) laminate. However, the laminate is probably something like dyed maple rather than specific woods and Mike only has white, black and purple in stock. He has to order it in large quantities so its not something that you can actually customise.Beautiful bass!
I love how the outline has 2 pieces - Ebony & Purpleheart???
So is the outline 1 thin layer that stretches across like another top? Mine has the black outline only.
