The Official MTD USA Thread

Thanks for the reply...by your description it "sounds" as good as it looks
It's pretty nuts for sure. Thing is, for most typical gigs in the cover band, If I take an MTD, I prefer the slightly tighter more traditionally voiced solid body (ash/walnut with the birdseye board and the world logo). Now, for church, jazz, or other settings where there's a bit more space in the mix and where hearing a lot more detail from each instrument is possible, it's ALL about the Marilyn.

Very nice...how many do you have?

Do the different wood combinations lend themselves to a "one MTD is never enough" kinda thing????

Are MTD's all you'll buy?
Just the two. I've been through several at this point, owning up to four at a time, but at this point, I think I'm set, and no... heck no... I have several different kinds of things in my stable. In no particular order, Skjold, Sadowsky, Carvin, F Bass, Alleva Coppolo, Nordstrand, Jerzy Drozd, Warrior, Fender, Yamaha, and even a Martin ABG. And there are a couple more brands that will probably join them this year as well. :)

Words cannot express the jealousy and respect I have for you right now.

But mostly jealousy. :ninja:

Here's mine... same exact wood/config:

Vic, could you please explain to me why you choose the back covers matching finish AND the front trussrod cover NOT matching finish?

I actually didn't. I got it used. I mentioned that a couple posts prior, but I shoulda' probably also put it in the picture post. I think I'll add it just in case.

Is there some kind of glossy lacquer on the neck or is it heavily oiled or something?
Nope. That bass had a lot of miles on it, so the neck was "played glossy" so to speak. Some folks like to buff them back out to more of the original satiny feel, but I just left it alone. It didn't bug me.

welp... I guess I will find out sooner or later! I don't sweat much, and never use any lotions, so well find out...

Wenge will absorb a lot I imagine, it is a naturally oily wood too.

I have wanted an MTD with a Wenge neck for sooo long and finally snagged one. YEARS ago I wanted a Tobias Signiture just because of the Wenge neck but decided to go another route, but these MTD's are soo much sweeter...

Dude, don't sweat this... if you want it to keep from getting glossy, just buff it out once in a while with some super fine sandpaper or something. Mike can probably even tell you exactly what to do. It was just never a problem for me... I considered it mojo, and again, it's got absolutely nothing to do with any lotion. :)
