The Official MTD USA Thread

+1 That is really nice! The burl is quite unique and beautiful, and the body itself is also a knockout! I bet that wood combination would be well-suited to my tastes/styles.

+2 The limba/wenge/wenge is a great combination: nice and punchy with a little more "darkness" to the tone than an ash body would typically provide.

Guess I'll have to leave you guys, traded my MTD because I couldn't get that tone I was looking for. Maybe I had the wrong wood but my others basses sound much better than the MTD. What would be the right wood for a nice warm tone with out all the mids?
Oh, well - it could be that MTDs are just not for you. But the wood does matter. Ash will generally produce more aggressive mids so, no, the combination you had is not what I would have recommended given what your tastes seem to be. I probably would have suggested black limba, mahogany,or makore for the body. For a neck I'd probably have gone with maple, maybe even wenge - but definitely not ash. In the end, however, it's always going to be a bit of a gamble if you haven't played the bass before buying it.

Here it is ... :hyper:
A friend of mine who got the bass for me in States took these photos and sent me about an hour ago.The dream come true, but I wont get it until June...Anyway , it's great to see that it has been finished :)

Yea I kinda miss my 535-24. That's why im sorta fishing since I have 3 of the same basic config bass.

The new Warrior DM-5's are amazing especially in the low end, tighter more focused than the Modulus I had, they feel real similar to 535 but sonically the MTD's tend to have more mid bite and high sizzle, and less low bite IMHO. No doubt The woods swing it further in one direction or the other, but the overall characteristic is pretty much set up by the build/p'ups/elecs/strings etc IMHO

Ok..... Here's a question.....what has the bark-bite-and tone of a mtd535 minus the weight?!?!.....I'm thinking of trying to swap my mtd535 for a ash-ash-rosewood combo....mine is a tulipwood-wenge-wenge-...... But the 9.10lbs is killin me...Any suggestions?....or someone who has a ash-ash-rosewood?.....Michael wants 1500.00 for a new neck and he keeps my wenge neck.....a bit steep for me to pull the trigger...
