The Official MTD USA Thread

Thanks guys. Glenn is the person I'm lined up to do the new order with.

Anyone else?
There are other MTD dealers, but I think for what you're trying to do, either find a very rare MTD on the market somewhere or just order one new, Glenn is probably your best resource.

After giving the 35" scale 19mm spacing the good ol college try for 7 months it's just not working for me. Broke my 3rd & 4th metacarpal savagely (don't ask :crying:) 12 years ago and my left hand has never been the same. Needless to say, the 35" at least for ME is really realy tough. BEST bass I ever owned and probably the easiest 35" as well but I rather play with comfort & w/out strain. Considered ordering a custom 534 but got lucky and picked up an awesome Zon (34", 17mm w/maple neck!)... will throw the MTD up in the classifieds tonight. Just thought I'd share as this has by far been the BEST TB "group" I have ever been in... No disrespect to the others. Thread isn't as active as others but I'm guessing because y'all are busy playing some WICKED MTD'S! Take care, i'll miss being a part of this family...

Totally understandable, and I have a couple Zons and can definitely attest to the fact that they are (also) the real deal. Enjoy!

Spectacular looking top. Thanks for posting.

Is that the natural color of the top or does it have a dark stain on it?

And what would you say is the natural tone/voicing of that wood combination?

Thanks again.

Thanks man. It's the natural color. Combined with the ash body it's very punchy and aggressive with a "zing" on the top end. Phenomenal slap tone. Paired with MTD nickels I've found this to be the best of slap but clear round finger all most j bass tones. I love it.

Thanks Vic BUT after a few hours I'm back in the club! The Zon was amazing but I bit the bullet, got store credit for the Zon and having my local dealer (Gelb) put in an order for a 534/21 mañana :hyper:! Still finalizing specs but shouldn't be too far off from what I currently have. Sorry, I couldn't stay away!

Well, when I put my order, Michael only makes 18 mm spacing using Hipshot A-Style bridge, which is $50 upcharge (if I remember correctly). Yeah, never worry to much on Mike's basses :D

Gotcha, thx and will keep that in mind. I have a Nordy VP5 which is 34" and 19mm and that 1" for me really makes a difference...i think I can live with the 19mm. I found the 17mm on the Zon alarmingly too narrow. I bet your 18mm is awesome!

So tempting, what was the up charge for that BTW? Trying to keep cost manageable... Your vids convinced me not too worry about the B string ;) thanks!

While the up charge is not that much, you must tell Mike/your dealer as soon as possible, don't change it when the build has start, because Mike makes the neck pocket/heel different if you want an A-Style bridge, because the thickness of the A and B-Style bridges.

I wanted an A-Style also, but when discussing with Mike, he told me that for sound, he prefers the 'attack' of the Barrel saddles on the B-Style better.

A 534 is already very comfortable, I'm tempted to make a 634, so congratulation on making these fun choices... :D

Good to know, thanks! Gonna finalize order tomorrow and I'm leaning to sticking with the 19mm. Yes, super fun but I know the wait won't be:hmm: 634...yummy!

Yummy it is... I played a 635, very comfy, almost buy that one, but I need a 5 more than a 6, so I made the 535 first. I've been talking to Mike about possibilities, But I still have to wait for my 535 to be done first to keep the bank account balanced... At least trying to
