It's definitely a rare piece of ash matched peg head... looks great on the instrument!

Wenge or maple neck?
What exactly are you looking for tone-wise?
A nice crunch full lows, average mids, snappy highs that sing. A nice slap and pop sound.
Wenge is more likely to give you a bit more "growl" in the low mids whereas a maple/rosewood will likely be a bit more "rounded". I say "likely" because, as much as these wood combos have their characteristics, it really comes down to the individual bass. Really, either wood combo will probably give you what you're looking for. I will say that, having owned four MTDs with wenge/wenge necks you'll probably find the maple/rosewood combo more "versatile". But it's always a bit of a crap shoot when you don't get to try the bass out first. I guess that wasn't too helpful! For what it's worth I'd go maple/rosewood.

another foreigner here, opposite end of the world this time.
my question is did Tobias make the Killer B bass before the Gibson change?
there is one on offer in New Zealand.
I think ima stick with maple/rosewood. I do want a nice rounded bounce in my lows.
Hey Tom,
Would you consider doing a review on your new Saratoga 4 for a future Bass Gear Mag issue? We'd really like that![]()

Perhaps. It's a great idea, and I have been thinking about it. Of course, we are pretty swamped with review items, but I do need to substitute review gear from time to time, so I'll definitely keep it in mind.
And, FYI, we already have another MTD-related review coming down the pipeline.![]()
If you'd like snappy highs, maybe you can check out ebony or maple fingerboard.
I've never tried an MTD with an ebony board but I'd love to. So many wood combos, so few funds!![]()
How I wish to live next to MTD workshop![]()
It's probably best that you don't.![]()
It's about time to have a MTD related review in BGM![]()
