Why. It would cost a lot more, and you would be changing the classic formula that made MTD's famous. I would not bother.
I am with Ken...He will do it...They actually pop up used on TB from time to time. But, I personally like the formula (bolt-on) that has become MTD.
Well... I played a neck thru years ago and remember walking away thinking it was one of the best MTD's I've ever played. At that time it was 7 grand and that was probably 6 years ago. If you want a neck thru and have the bread to back up that want/need, I'm pretty sure you'll get a bada$$ ride.
Nothing wrong with blending his original vibe (neck thru) with the new...... Other than the devastation to your bank account.
I am just curious as to how much they cost. All my other basses are neck-thru, i figure I can have 1 bolt on.
The MTD design is bolt-on. Mike doesn't seem to make too many neck-throughs anymore and I think the people who request them have the older Tobiases in mind. I had a conversation with Mike once about how he prefers the sound of the bolt-ons and is happy that the neck-through trend of the 80s/90s is basically over. But that might just be because making neck-throughs is a pain in the butt.
I'm thinking the extra cost will run you at least $1500 - maybe $2000. I'd be curious to know for sure though.

I guess that is easier than just saying 'no'.Pretty subtle difference in performance anyway, and will mostly be masked by specific pieces of wood, etc. An expertly cut, tight neck pocket is not very different from a neck through on a bass like the MTD's, and with the bolt-on, you get the 'advantage' of a solid body versus glued on body wings (again, subtle, and not that important... but those who talk about the 'benefits' of neck through design rarely mention that there are other 'costs' involved).
Again, always better IMO to let the builder build what he prefers. If you really want a neck through, there are builders who are totally behind that design out there.

What are some good wood combos for this tone goal? Anyone thinking of selling or trading a newer 635, preferrably 24 fret.
