The Official MTD USA Thread

Mike uses steel saddles on his B style with an aluminum plate. He uses brass on his A style saddles
I don't remember ever seeing an A style bridge on an MTD. At some point I asked Mike about this and I'm pretty sure he told me that all the saddles were brass. Could be things have changed, or that I'm not remembering correctly! :D

Mike offers the A style as an option. I have had it on a number of my basses.

What a great collection. How are you liking your makore 535 with the composite neck? Mike recommended me a makore body for my 634-24

Oh, I love it! It has definitely become my go-to MTD, and it's one of the basses I am using the most for a reference when reviewing gear.

Does anyone know if there was a changeover at some point with MTD strings? The set that came on my bass was the same as the MTD strings I remember from years ago - light yellow silk wrap. I just bought a couple sets of MTD strings though and the color of the silk winding is more gold/tan than yellow. I also noticed differences in how the B string was tapered and the ball at the end of the strings, and the package is different. Did he change manufacturers?

Mike used to have Dean Markley make his strings but they were so horrible to work with that he switched over to La Bella. They make all MTD strings now

Makes sense! So he must have just still had put some of the old Dean Markley made strings on my bass from the shop because they definitely had the old light yellow silk winding.

I asked Mike to put a set of DM SR2000LT's on my 634-24 before shipping last month, and he gave me his last set on the shelf. He mentioned that AG is now using LaBella's...
