The Official MTD USA Thread

So here lately, I've been thinking of selling my 435. I can't believe I've been toying with this idea. Then I'll play it, and smack myself. I don't get it! This instrument is so freaking amazing and I've never, ever played anything so well made and so easy to play.

Does anyone ever go through this?
I haven't been playing my 535s much lately (although I took one of them out to a reggae jam last night) but that's not because they aren't some of my favourite basses in the world. I just go through phases and am lucky enough to be able to choose from some very nice instruments. I'll go back to my 535s soon enough (right now I'm on a non-Fender Jazz bass kick).

Guys, it's done!!! 635-24 Poplar body/Myrtle Burl top/Wenge neck & FB. One more week until I get to play it!!

Mike and crew just finished a bunch of Saratogas (presumably in preparation for NAMM): [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

They look great! I really would like to hear how they sound, with all those different pickup configurations. Even with the straight jazzes it would be cool to hear Aguilar vs. Nordstrand, etc.

The new pickups do make it interesting for sure...there's a 535 with a flamed sycamore body at a shop in the UK... It sounds amazing... I can only wonder how amazing it sounds on a Saratoga as a top on an ash body....I'd be tempted to offload a bass or two for that one...

That's gonna be nice! Also, you're gonna love those nylon strings. They're special versions of La Bella's white nylons, and they are killer! I've been using the nylons for a few years now, and I have the new MTD ones on my 635. They are so good!

Absolutely not,... That seems about average to me... then again, I never sweat how much a bass weighs, unless I'm looking for a certain sound, but I'm a young, strapping buck...BTW ,my MTD weighs 9lbs 5oz and its totally cool with me....

Titanium bars are mostly standard in his US built 6's and 7's. His 5's would be by request (a priced option) or typically when a wood other than Maple or Wenge was used for the neck. The NS Saratoga has a maple neck but incorporates them as well - possibly to add stability to the slightly thinner 535 neck profile. If buying used, request to see the build sheet where possible.
