The Official MTD USA Thread

Ya, 18 months is more realistic these days unfortunately. One of the biggest blocks in the process is Bartolini trying to survive/get product out despite all the crazy restrictions that continue to pile on in California :sour:

So unfortunate for a small shop like Mike's....

There was a time when I had basses built in under 9 months.

I know he was having issues with his CNC machine and finally got the parts needed to get back up and running after being down for months.

Daniel's recent interest in CNC is quite intriguing. Seems he may be considering a middle tier option where the basses are machined (instead of handmade) and assembled in NYC.

the bodies have all been cnc cut for years. From there everything else is hand finished. It just keeps consistency and allows for a more efficient process.

After trying out a Kingston I couldn't resist going for the real deal

Hey everyone! I got another MTD video for you all, this time featuring my beloved USA 535-24 and the MTD modified Kingston Super 5 featuring USA Bartolini electronics and Hipshot Hardware upgrades. Enjoy!

Your 535 is so good sounding.

Sometimes I think I follow this thread just to torture myself lol

One day I'll get a 534 17mm bass... That's my dream

Back in the club, with #241, a lovely and well-played avidore/wenge 534/21. I’ve been looking for another older 534 or 535, and I love the fact that this one looks like it would fit in a blues show at a dive bar as easily as a worship or fusion gig!

Many believe that wenge and avodire is the secret recipe to play some divine sounds. Wenge and avodire.

I would get fresh strings on it and spend some time seriously wringing it out, because that could very well be the closest thing to your wife and your dog. Avodire and wenge, with no fancy top, seriously, I dream of that combination.

That burst + chechen board is going to look amazing. I have a chechen board myself.
I'm still in disbelief I pulled the trigger on this bass... I only have the medium quality picture from bass central to go off of and some red supers MTD has on their Instagram. I just know from looking at all of thier builds I will not be disappointed.

This is actually not the first wenge/avidore 535/21 I’ve owned, but it’s been 20 years since the last one

It is an incredible bass, and I’m a big fan of wenge necks and no tops on MTDs. The only thing I find myself wishing for is a wider neck, after many years of playing my 20mm Curbows and Bordwells. It’s seriously tempting me to consider a custom build, since I know the Bubby Lewis signatures have 20mm spacing…

Hope it is not too late to be in the club... Yes, this 634-24 is built back in 2019 and used in lots of gigs and recordings. I have actually made a video in my youtube channel to illustrate different settings of sound for the Super pickups in regular position. This is the bass which people praise its build quality and definitely the sound. Amazing work from Michael and Daniel!!
