I heard Phil Maneri's clip in which he played DB through an SA2000 and I loved the sound; how does DB sound through the Reeves?
We did try the DB through the Reeves, and it was definitely an interesting tone, but ultimately, it didn't seem like as good of a fit as an electric bass. The mids were not as focused, and it didn't sound as much like an upright as it did when played through the SA200.

Interesting...I think I'll try my Eminence EUB through it tonight and see how it works out.
I have a winter project band on tap, a back to the bars, authentic late 60's early 70's vibe, wherein there is no elaborate FOH system involved. Vocals only in the PA, reminiscent of the actual way R&R began, although not leaning towards the double, triple and quad stacks ala Cream, Mountain, Hendrix et al.
The mind says Reeves C225 and a pair of 15's but the back and mode of transport says sealed 4x10. However other than the teaser banter between Ed and Tom way back in January and the presently MIA Bass Gear Magazine's original review of the head only all I can find are the clips at the Reeves Website. While nice they are after all just clips and I'm interested in hearing more forum chatter and blather on the sealed 4x10 cabs before I make my choice.
Has anyone been able to truly put the 4x10 sealed cab through its paces? Or better yet purchased one and have an opinion they would like to share?
LOL, that I said I would still like to see a properly executed 4x12, angled top half ala Marshall 1960A's from Reeves.
65 Amps, Morgan, and Old School Amps are all on the table for this project but I am leaning towards the Reeves at the moment.

I haven't tried the 410 yet, but I have played an outdoor gig with the 225 head & a pair of the 15"s.
The thing was fat as hell, filled the stage and didn't even come close to breaking a sweat. They are the most responsive 15"s I've ever played through...and I'm a JBL guy.

You can have Jeff Swanson build you a proper 4x12 and load them with your choice of speakers.
Another option is a HiTone 4x12. You can get a good idea of what a Jazz bass sounds like throught it using a HiTone 100w head at . Look for the sound clip of "Sparks".

High praise indeed for a "JBL Guy", which btw I have a very soft spot for as well.
Hmmm.... pondering mode engaged as I remember the cartage of 2 x Sunn 2000S cabs with JBL D-140's. Malatchi Mixer and McIntosh Tube Amps powering them, although I cannot remember why I sold them, or what replaced them way back when, besides the need for a van to transport them.

Yes it would be very nice if Bill would do just that, as the first Hi-Watt I played through was a 4x12. Sadly it was not mine and as I was enamored with my Orage OR-120 and 2x15 reflector cab, but would have lept at the chance to purchase that Hi-Watt rig if available.
Fortunately I had the presence of mind to retain said Orange rig to this day. Too flippin' big to transport these days, it's semi permanently ensconced in a local studio, and gets weekly offers to purchase.

I'm a 15" kinda guy personally, but Reeves does offer a 300 watt 4x12. It's been a staple item in their lineup since well before the Custom 225 was designed, or for that matter, well before HiTone existed.
The Reeves uses a heavier duty cast frame driver rather than the stamped steel drivers in most AP 4 x12's.
Just narrow it down to one JBL loaded 2000S cab, and the cartage gets much easier.
This particular cab is loaded with K140's, thumps pretty good...
Thanks Ed, major Doh happening right now, bass specific mode allowed that to escape consideration, since I am pretty sure that the cab I tried from Hi-Watt would be similar as there was not a bass specific cabinet model in the line-up back in the early 70's, however I may be wrong on that guess/recollection. It appears a little phone time is in order at this point, I'll call Bill tomorrow.

Has Reeves built any ~400 watt prototype amps? I would like to get a similar amp head to pair with my old Hiwatt 400. I suppose I should ask Mr. Jansen.
I've had no luck trying to find a Weber MYWATT 400 or another old Hiwatt DR405, and newer MG built Hiwatts don't seem to have the build quality of Reeves and Hylight-era Hiwatt.

I'm not quite sure on the "most responsive 15's" part...
They are the most unattractive sounding 15" speakers i've ever heard. All mid range honk, no stamina down low and really just inadequate for the 225.

I prefer to think of us as temporarily running some covert ops.
Once the new graphics guy gets settled into his new home, we should be able to pick up some speed, again. And while it won't be in issue #5, we are still playing around with the Reeves 4x10 and 1x15 cabs. We've also been doing some tests for Bill with regard to running KT120's in the C225, and while I don't want to spill too many beans, I can say that I am currently running my C225 with KT120's, and plan on keeping it that way.
With regard to the two 1x15's vs one 4x10 question, you are going to move more air with the two 1x15's, and I find them to be punchier than the 4x10. Conversely, the 4x10 has amazing depth, and is pretty darned smooth (but not "wimpy" in any way).

Both fretted and fretless MIJ fender jazz specials & a clevinger EUB...I play primarily with my fingers.
Huh, is it an AP cab? I haven't heard of anyone playing bass with them, but I had wondered if it was conceivable. Before I built my cab, I'd been looking into a square 4x12, not one of those 8x10 size configurations, but I didn't really have any luck finding one, except for the South Bay Marshall Tall 4x12 with bass speakers put in. I may check into this in the future.

I've played guitar through a Reeves 4x12 cab loaded with Vintage Purple speakers. I don't think the cab could handle bass frequencies at high volume. They don't even handle a drop tuned guitar all that well compared to some other guitar speakers. For a bass cab from Reeves, their only current options are the 1x15 and 4x10.
