I took a look at the figures in the issue. I definitely need to revisit the 225's EQ when I get that elusive fuse.
I thought I recalled reading that the designers of the Custom 225 incorporated some sonic qualities of the Sunn 2000S into the amplifier.
Speaking of which, has anyone heard or tested the C4 preamp designed and sold by the Sunn Godfather?

Wow, that is weird. It looks almost like you have to crank the mids to get them flat. GAS killer.
I ordered an F3A from the last link and it wasn't the right one. It doesn't fit into the holder and isn't labeled the same. The ones in the first link aren't the same fuse as the stock one either. Are you actually using one of these fuses?
Did you order a 20mm fuse instead of the 30mm shown in the link? I'm surprised they didn't ask you which size you needed.
I get fuses from a different source, but a fast-blow 3 amp 30mm x 6mm or 1.25" x .25" fuse is a fast-blow 3 amp 30mm x 6mm or 1.25" x .25" fuse; and a pretty common item.
It sure isn't "elusive" and shouldn't cause you the stress that it apparently is.
Just take the blown one into Radio Shack or some other comparable retail outlet and ask for "one of these", Ill bet theyll fix you right up.

I recall reading that some Sunn tube amps had complete Dynaco hi-fi amps under the hood of their products, not that there's anything wrong with that. If it works, it works.
I hadn't heard anything about the C4 until your post. Anybody here got one? Aside from a tiny pic and a $695 price tag, I couldn't find any other info about the C4 on their site.
I posted a long dissertation on the Reeves C225 in July 2007 in which I used 2000Ss as a frame of reference, but as far as I know the C225 was based on the AP Hiwatt DR201 and tweaked to be more bass guitar specific; mostly more bottom end and power/headroom. The prototype I tested was actually built on a British DR201 chassis, with Reeves spec built Heyboer iron and Reeves stuffed turret boards. The reason I used the Sunn 2000S for comparison is twofold; Im a huge fan of the big Sunns, and also they were the only 4 X KT88 amps I had on hand for comparison.
A healthy 2000S rig is a very tasty rig indeed; a dinosaur, cumbersome, heavy and lacking in features, but big, rich, clean, very touch responsive and just well Tasty.
A fact that wasnt lost on the Reeves guys during my C225 test sessions based on their comments when I had the big Sunns cooking.
We spent a lot of time with the 2000Ss, and it was before the C225 was finalized, so I cant discount the possibility that the final tone tweaks were at least in part inspired by the big Sunns. However, the Hiwatt was the base inspiration for the Custom 225 IMO.
Id love to check out Mr. Sundholms C4 preamp, Ive never heard it but its pedigree is outstanding.
The earliest Sunns were Dynaco Mk III and Mk IV amplifiers and a modified Dynaco PAM 1 mono preamp mounted in a box in a split chassis amp configuration. As they progressed they became the more familiar single chassis Sunns that most of us are familiar with, and strayed some from the Dynaco design but still kept the basic circuit intact.
But There are plenty of Sunn threads here, this one is The Official REEVES Bass Amp Thread, so Im feeling a little guilty about the hijack.
That's interesting - it's been a while since I did that gig with one, but I think I wound up with my tones set pretty much like that shown as "flat"- if anything I might have used a tad less bass...somewhere between nine and ten o'clock.

Nope. I ordered that exact fuse. I did end up finding the fuses after going to 4(!) radio shacks. I sold the 1x15, but I'm saving up some cash to grab a Reeves 410, so I'll report back about everything once I do that. Thanks for the help!
I'm glad you got hooked up, it bad anytime your rig is down but it would really suck to get sidelined for something as basic as a fuse.
I like the Reeves 410, but I prefer the 15's personally. At least right now anyway; I've gone from 12's to ported 15's to sealed 10's to folded horn 18's to ported 10's to ported 10's and 15's to ported 15's in the past 4 decades, so who knows what flavor I'll be into in a year or so!

I made some templates for my C225's different settings, for quick gig setups by my tech. Here's the one for "flat"... according to Bass Gear mag's great technical review (thanks Tom!)

I just find myself preferring the 15's. Of course individual style, bass used and music genre come into play, but I think it's just a personal preference, and as I alluded to my own preferences change regularly.
Also I like to use both preamps as a tonal control; if you havent jumpered the channels give it a try.
I've been lurking and gassing on this thread for a while. I think that the Reeves 225 may be in my future. Still not sure about the cabinet. I've ususally been a 4x10 guy, but the 1x15 sounds good on the Reeves sight and seems to be well regarded. In an ideal world, I'd get one of each, but not sure that's on budget. Anyway, just wondering if there's a strong opinion one way or the other as to the 4X10 or the 1X15. Thanks.
So I got the amp sorted. I did some serious testing and rehearsing and I've decided the reeves just isn't my thing for now. I am sellin the 225 off, but I still gotta say it rocks. I think I'm spoiled by the bazillion watts my M9 has lol.
