I recently started using a 5. I have a G&L Trib M2500, but I wanted to try a 35” 5 and found this Ibanez BTB 845 for a great deal w/case. This 35” hangs better and ergonomically works better for me than the 34” M2500 at almost the exact same weight. The forearm “contour” is straight out the SAW franchise, but I’ll figure out how to soften that. I’d also like to de-blue it, or at least dial it back.

No, I meant what does Dean Zelinski say the advantage is of such a textured neck?
My guess is its the same idea as tire treads: when you are pressing with your thumb, you have very firm traction but it will actually be faster if you aren't pressing hard due to less surface contact.
