I meant to reply to @flashgods post at the top of the page - but something is preventing me from doing so...
Zooming in on the headstock it appears to say "Fame" on it. I've never heard of them but it's a brand:

What's on their site is a far cry from that FSO, but logo looks the same.
Also his post is just a quote and an attached, but not embedded, image. There's no new content. Technically speaking there's no post to reply to
An appreciate post for my J bass -
I had kinda gotten away from it favor of my P bass for a bit. That's where I landed with my last band before we broke up. Don't get me wrong - I love my P bass, too. But picking up my J bass for the cover band has been really good, like a comfortable pair of shoes that are real stylish to boot (no pun intended.) Plus I love how it sounds, even if I wouldn't mind a bit more grit (eg SDQP style). I'd honestly forgotten how good it sounds!
(those block inlay stickers aren't there anymore)
ETA - for those interested, it's a parts J bass -
The body is from a Highway One (I think) that was originally finished in red
The neck is a from an MIJ jazz bass
The pickups are Fender SCNs
The bridge is a generic Gotoh 201-style
I don't know what kind of tuners are on it...

I am jalous...of that star wars collection!!!
I’m pretty sure you can find the right strings that would give you more grit out of your jazz bass.
I have some Dunlop Marcus Miller stainless steel super bright rounds on one of my jazz bass and it rumbles like crazy on low notes and cuts in the mix pretty much like a p bass.
The only downside is that they are rather trebly but I guess rolling off the treble might work.

My Squier Affinity with its new Fender MIM roasted maple jazz neck.
Playability is at its best, feather weight, rumbles a lot on E string, punches on the mids almost like a p bass, can’t ask for more and definitely a keeper………although it’s a "cheap" bass !

this used to be a 90’s Squier P Bass in Olympic White. Only the body is left, the neck is build by Vox Humana in Vlaardingen - The Netherlands.
the pups are from Bartolini, a high mass bridge from Fender and then some new pots and wires. The tuning machines are Hipshot Lightweights.
