The official "Show your basses" thread part 19!

So I installed the new Fender Hi Mass bridge. It looks great. It added about 3 ounces and helped alleviate the slight neck dive the bass had before. It sounds fuller and sustains longer. I made some recordings before and after, but sometimes we listen with our eyes. The look of the bass definitely saw the biggest improvement.

The one thing I failed to mention is how dramatic the improvement was for harmonics. The new bridge was easily 50% louder and sustained the volume for much longer. In this area, even in a live band setting, the improvement would be noticeable.

PS. - My band just added Dream I'll Never See by Molly Hatchet to the set list. This is one song where that bridge would be noticeable.

exactly - missing the bridge MFD pu and 9v harness it appears.
I’m waiting for some gear to sell first to offset the cost but I plan on restoring this baddie to its full glory with a new MFD & preamp ordered direct from G&L.. gonna wire up the K-Mod / outer coils only switching as well. Got this bass for a steal and it sounds incredible as is, but can’t wait to hear it with a bridge pickup installed omg

You can't go wrong with an L2000 set-up. :bassist:

Is it "roasted"? (torrified)
It’s not, but at first glance I thought so too. A pal of mine has a recently made Stingray that has a roasted neck and it is 50 shades darker than this one!

Coolest Stingray ever. It's like a barnfind 68 Shelby.
Thanks! And yeah it’s always cool when you find something awesome, especially when you weren’t actively looking for anything at all. It’s like the GAS goes sentient sometimes lol

I have a G&L neck that looks exactly the same. I was told it is crazy maple. Very difficult to work with and not too common.View attachment 5466611

I have a late '80s Saunders P neck that I bought NOS years ago. It too has 'crazy maple" figuring. Story goes Saunders was a boutique builder then and commissioned the newly started FCS to make them. It's a very nice neck so I tend to believe it.
