Hey, is this intentionally treated wood supposed to have this neck color? This, as I see it, is probably some new fashion and way for today's guitars...?
I don't know if it's good or bad, but I'd rather have it in the back of my mind that no one fried my guitar on a grill or gave it steroids to make it grow faster.
I also think that every bassist should have at least one Stingray...

About the neck: yes, because it's roasted maple. I admit I wouldnt mind if it were a bit lighter in color but I still like it though. Roasted maple should be a bit stronger than the regular maple necks. Also, yup, a Stingray should be in pretty much every bassist's arsenal

I know how great TalkBass is... If you show your bass, you must be prepared for comments? I see that there are comments under the photos, so I added mine. I'm honest and I'm not going to beat around the bush... That my opinion, as a member of TalkBass, is that I personally don't like something like that in the bass guitar and that's it... For me, music is apolitical, non-partisan, without religion, gender, etc.. because it only divides people instead of uniting them. So I don't like the project and I express it in a comment. Chill out!

I also have some godawful P bass and MM clones. That backup there is actually good sounding and playing, but weighs twice as much as the real deal.

Thanks! I wish I could rock/funk/jazz fusion it out with a band, but those days are pretty much behind me at this point. I do use the 4004L SPC for recording occasionally, but I'd love to show it off at gigs.

Left to right: 2023 Squier Rascal in Metallic Black (wanted green but bought this one off the wall because it felt so good), October 1985 Ibanez Roadstar II Mystery Model (blend between RB 680 and 686) Fretless, 2024 Walter Bass Co. H32, 2009 CIJ Geddy Lee Jazz. The quiver is full now I swear.

OK so the fretless 1994 Music Man Stingray showed up.

It's probably going to be my new number one. Best bass I've owned and top 2-3 best basses I've played.

Holy sh1t.

I've played a few fretless Rays but this is a WHOLE other thing.

After 30 seconds I completely forgot it was fretless.

And the condition... This is a 30 year old bass. It has 2 dings and a small scratch. Gotten B stock in worse shape.

100% original.

Now... Should I try and get a matching fretted bass from the same time period? Incredibly tempting.

To get this and the fretless 79 P in the same week is a bit overwhelming.

Surprised how different the 2018 is compared to the 1994, even considering the extra feet.
