It's interesting that the pu's don't have covers. My Grass Roots/ESP Bass IV has a similar thing going on. The only problem is that you have to remove the pg to adjust the pu height. A bit of aesthetics over function. It's ok because once adjusted, you're not likely to need re-adjustment.

Huh... I don't think I could finger-press that hard!
I just tried pushing on my Bass IV pu's and they are pretty solid.

Yeah it’s what set me off years ago into a floating or using anything but the pickup as a rest. Me no rest on electronics
Ibanez GSR206 and a Squier LPB 4 string P/J Bass...
Black P bass is a single piece pine body I made myself in 2013, Mighty Mite neck, Dimarzio Model P pickup, Fender parts. The sunburst P is a Carvin PB4 I ordered in 2014, setup for BEAD, passive electronics, alder body, maple neck, stainless steel frets.
I bought this Ibanez AEGB30E as being light enough to take on the back of my wheelchair.
After waiting five years, yesterday I picked up a stripped and refinished Cort Space Arrow B.
New DiMarzio Relentless pickups, new CST potentiometers, new 3mm cubic zirconia side fret markers, and a 10-cent Centennial coin fills the switch hole.
Now I have a match to my black one, bought new in 1985...

I scored this Mockingbird off Marketplace cheap. I am not super familiar with these , from my understanding it’s a 1984 NJ Series Mockingbird. As you can see the condition left a lot to be desired but I made a YouTube video cleaning it up , check it out.
