You could always get the neck reshaped and refinished.
The first is my original '76 P Bass, which I bought new, and played the heck out of.
Was considering restoring it so it would work right (still sounds pretty good though!)
Second is my new 2017 Ric 4003s in Midnight Blue. I had the hardware powder coated black and replaced the stock white pickguard. The bass sounds awesome, but very different to play from the Fender, which has been the only bass I've played for 41 years...
Anyway, I am looking for a nameplate for my new 4003s, black with white lettering.. anyone know where I can get one? Rickenbacker is NO HELP at all, which confirms what I've heard about them.

Have you got any pics without the cover?.
Bass has a lot of high end, but sold with nice sustain. I don't know why, but always partial to maple fretboards on a p bass.
Not sure what you mean "without the cover". I will get a better picture without the sun and shadows.

It's quite an odd pic, with the sunlight playing across it (how poetic lol).
First off, I thought it was a light grey colour, then I thought it was sunburst with one of those Parker Body Guard things on it - that's what I meant by the cover.
I now realise it's not a Body Guard - they don't come round beyond the sides of the instrument.

Yet another brand new shot of my old trusted late 2010 Mikro.
This after having haphazardly attempted and failed to drill an extra far neck pickup cavity and then filling it out with some filler mass and painted it over, as well as having glued back the piece of fretboard, concerning the last two upper frets where the low E string would be, that also chipped off in the little thought out process of drilling.
Luckily while the repairs didn't exactly turn out a visually beauty, the bass doesn't seem to have suffered any damage in terms of functionality or tone.
