After a long time being here and only reading, I've decided to post pictures of my bass made by a local luthier. I have it since early 2015 and it's still making me happy. The shape etc. is my idea that merges my taste. What do You think about it? Any feedback?

Details:

1. 35 inch scale
2. Semi hollow merbau body with curly maple on top and wenge binding
3. ebony fingerboard
4. Electronics from Ibanez BTB675 with Bartolini pickups and ABM Piezo bridge.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! I'm not a pro player or luthier, and I do appreciate the value of this instrument...that being said, I certainly couldn't make it any worse than it was...it is my mission to repair and refinish the body to the best of my abilities, and get it back to a proud state. The original pick up and pots are not there, or the pickup cover or pick guard...the first pictures are as I saw it the first time. I was fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time to be able to own this time capsule, and it actually was an attic find. I don't know when the original molestation took place, but the precision pickups that were jammed in it have 1968 dates on them, the pots from 1983..I'll get some pictures in order and meet you all over in the Luthier's corner....

Here is 10 of my girls

1. Custom Alvarez “Precision Man”. Somewhere between a P and Music Man. Body and neck stock. Everything else is custom including the pickguard that I designed myself.
2. Stock Squier Dimension. For that Duff tone.
3. Stock Brice Defiant 6. Really like this thing.
4. DeArmond Pilot V. Tone Monster Pre and Bartolini Bright J pickups. (They drop in).
5. “The Homewrecker”. This Squier Pro Tone made me break up with a lot of my other basses. Found out I dig wide spacing 5s. Modified to active. Tone Monster pre and Seymour soapbars. This is my number one. I don’t leave home without it!!
6. Custom pro tone body. I bought this one piece mahogany body off eBay. It fit the Pro Tone neck. I had bought one recently to sandwich on another body. That never occurred. But some freak had build this thing and parted it out when the neck got damaged. Okie. Reccomendations on the pickup. Mm size.
7. Dixon P. My very first bass. 1989. Not a bad player. At all!! Sold years ago and got back a couple of years ago. Custom pickguard and pickups. My only 4.
8. Dean acoustic bass. Just picked this up. For $85.
9. Squier Special P. As one T’ber said “probably the worst bass on earth”. Well not really. But the pickups really stink. They’re 4 string Js on a 5. Goal is two humbuckers like the red pro tone to create a Pro Tone clone. Same neck profile as the Pro Tone. 2” nut. 3” at last fret.
10. Last (pictured) is my modified Ibanez Talman. Arrived new with a defective preamp. Got a deal instead of sending it back. Upgraded to a Tone Monster pre and new P splits.

Not pictured. Pedulla Rapture 5. It doesn’t hang on wall hangers.

Yamaha RBX-765a. Hasn’t even arrived yet. Should be here tomorrow. Probably won’t do anything to it. Green and gold hardware. Kinda ugly but cool.

It's kinda funny that despite all my efforts to build those basses without scratching or denting them up -and when playing outside the house- that your favourite is the one thrashed to pieces!

I don't really go for maple fingerboards either - every guitar I have, or have ever owned, has a rosewood fingerboard. I'm also a Precision rather than a Jazz guy, but there's something I find totally appealing about that one.

How do you like that Ibby ASB140 ? I have the AGB140 with black nylon wrapped flats and love it though the tone control doesn't do much. I wish they made the ASB 180 in long scale like the ASB 140

When I saw the ASB140 on Ebay I instantly fell in love because I once had a Gibson Les Paul Standard Guit@r in the same colour.

When it arrived the first thing I did was take out the original pickup and order that Bartolini -as I don't like EMG shaped pickups with the two height screws that create a dip in the covers (I rest my thumb on that spot and it's uncomfortable).

Anyway, that bass just sat there for nearly a month without ever having been plugged in! Now I've wired it up I can only say that it sounds more like a Stingray than I could have ever expected! I have a push / pull on the tone control for series / parallel, but even in series it sounds like a Musicman?! The bass itself is huge and the neck is very chunky but it certainly has its own vibe going on -even my drummer said he really liked the tone!

I have Chrome flats on it mainly because I just like them and also because on my basses that don't have stainless steel frets I just prefer not to cause fret wear and having to level / reprofile them every so often.

I really like it and only imagine it will slowly start getting used more and more.

That is absolutely is one of the most beautiful instruments I've seen and I have to say you and your Luthier have great taste. I really like everything about it except, my OCD wouldn't stop until the control cavity cover fit perfectly, even if I had to shape 5 of them to get it right. Does it bother you any ?
