My brother knows I've been looking for a Peavey Palaedium for some time, what I didn't know is that he had bought one from an American Reverb or Ebay listing without me knowing, so I was totally shocked when he turned up with one at my house this afternoon! It's got an amazing sound. I now set my sights on getting an American made Dean Jeff Berlin model.
And whilst I'm posting pictures, my daughter really loves my Pentabuzz!

That distressed finish looks cool. And the scratch that got you a discount probably just adds to it!Ok, #15 and I'm about ready to acknowledge I may have a problem...but not quite yet! This is the first, unbox, take the foam wrap off, peel the plastic pickup protectors off, NEW bass I've purchased since the very first bass I bought from the Sears catalog back in 1986. Introducing my Ibanez AGBV205A Vintage Artcore semi hollow-body bass. I got a heckuva deal on it because it had a small scratch on it.

Having fun with it right now. B is pretty good and sounds really nice on the bridge pickup with a little chorus.

Concerning the Dean Jeff Berlin Signature Model:
Get the Czech Made Dean Jeff Berlin Signature Model with the offset machines. Do not get any other. There's a Korean version and a Chinese version. The Korean versions are decent, but lack the BAD ASS II Bridge and the Bartolini pups and the Schaller tuners.
The Chinese version is active but also lacks the BA II bridge, Schaller Tuners and Bart Pups....and Jeff Berlin would never endorse an active bass. These are on Amazon once in a while.
There is currently a Dean Patchwork version on GC used gear section for a very salty price, but it is the real deal.

Many sellers are pricing the lower quality non-Czech made Dean's at the same price and you'll be stuck with something inferior. Here is a pic of my Dean Czech made Jeff Berlin signature model. For a bolt on neck it has amazing sustain. There are later Czech made versions with tuning machines in line and parallel rather than offset.
Of course if you're talking about obtaining the Dean USA custom shop model that I think was made for 2013 (attached link) best of luck finding one. I've never actually seen the versions made in the Dean USA Florida shop.

Just be careful before buying. Jeff Berlin left Dean for a reason and although I can't speak for him I very much believe it is because they started making these out of lower quality materials in order to get a higher profit margin, though that is just my opinion. However, Dean seems to do that quite a bit on some of their nicer offerings over time. An example is changing Bart pups or EMG pups to their own versions, changing out BA II bridges to similar looking no name bridges, changing out machine tuners to no name Schaller looking or Grover looking versions, heavier use of basswood which granted, it is a lighter wood, but doesn't resonate well for a bass. It is less of a concern when basswood is used on either side of a neck through style bass.

I wholeheartedly concur. You can't beat the finish Nature gave it.
I would spend (significantly) more money, taking it back to original
or as close as possible. Neck pocket would prob give indication of
any original finish. But then that's just me and what I think
gives it more collectable value and aesthetic beauty. Hence
(.gif disclaimer). Either way, nice bass.

I hadn't seen that Patchwork at Guitar Centre. It's pricey but I'd happily spend $1000 on the right instrument. The maple fretboard on that one puts me off, it looks good but I must have an ebony board model for my collection.
I had sent to message to Talkbass user @dharmashawn about a Patchwork he sold a few yeads ago which was apparently a prototype model that Jeff had previously owned but I never heard back.
I keep my eyes on the market, as something will come along eventually!

I play a Sigma bass about half the time. I'd guess most of you haven't come across one of these.
It's very heavy and has a very deep sound. Made in a limited run in the early/mid 70's by the Tokai Guitar Co in Japan.

My main gigging bass built in 1985. Curly maple neck through with black walnut body wings. Ebony fingerboard, headstock overlay and stripes in the body. Badass bridge, Grover tuners and Alembic pickups & preamp. I still have this and built several versions after with the most recent being a five string I posted in the luthier section. Later this year I will be working on a six string.

That is extremely cool. I have the Sigma Anniversary Acoustic guitar 1 of only 100. I believe the last of the Japanese Sigmas made in 1980. A wonderful guitar. My Aunt JoAnn bought it new and left it to me when she died in 82. Needless to say it is special.

I very much like it. I can get almost a Ric tone out of it at times, but many more as well. I am having to get used to the 35" scale but the B string is great. The fingerboard is flatter than my Peavey Foundation V too. I got a very good deal on it used. Honestly, I simply can't believe how good it is. I feels like a bass worth many times it's price.

It's priceless. That's the true value of an instrument. Everything else is materialistic.
Past that it's an expensive piece of furniture to impress your friends or yourself.
Altho' in that respect, we're guys and collections are nice...
Just got a chicken backer at a cheap price. Build is pretty good and set up nicely. The bridge pup is very hot and has a nice grind. Neck one is much deeper. The sound isn't an exact Ric but not bad.
The rosewood fretboard is made of low quality wood and the neck is thicker than a real Ric. Tuners are as good as any Chinese or Indonesia bass I have played.
Overall, for 300$, is a cool backup.
