Fairly well known trick: Stain it dark, let it cure a few days, sand it back until just the grain has dark stain in it, then go over it with a lighter stain. A lot of work, but the results seem to be worth it.

The Spectocore is based on the NS2000 body but is still in production. This is the third one I've owned .The electronics are completely different than any other Spector as there is a Fishman piezo bridge in addition to the EMG HZ.

So, I took my Squier Classic Vibe to the shop and made "a couple" modifications.

Mods:
- Painted it from Olympic White into Lake Placid Blue with matching headstock
- Installed active EMGs in white, with their circuitry/pots
- Swaped tortoise pickguard and chrome control plate for black ones
- Swaped black knobs for white ones
- As I won't be selling this anytime soon, added my band's logo in the headstock

I must be Blessed because I've purchased lots of inexpensive parts, including necks, bridges, pickguard material and lots of hardware from Chinese distributors through eBay delivered in 2 to 5 weeks. The savings have been tremendous. The one time I had a problem with pickguard screws being black chrome instead of black was taken care of no problem. I've had better luck getting what I want from China than from US distributors. Sure it takes longer to get your items but if your a broke-ass musician like me it pays to be patient. YEMV

I have an experimental bass build i have been putting off, but bought a prewired 5 knob, 3 band active eq system for 11 bucks on ebay... it may suck (haven't tried it) but i can afford to take that chance....
