hello all, lately I have been doing up my custom bass you may recognize it, but here is what it looks like now.
I moved one of the pickups over to be able to pick up the g string and cut the bridge deeper into the body and made the 24th fret easily accessible.

So, I had a bit of GAS for a LPB P-bass with a Rosewood fretboard. American Original, too expensive. MIJ/CIJ, the used market was suddenly void of them. So, I went for a Player Precision in Tidepool. Only problem? They are a Maple only option.
So, I put the word out on my local FB groups and another bass player wanted a Capri Orange with a Maple neck. So I bought a Capri/PF, did the neck swap, and sold the Capri/MN bass for a bit less than street price to make the deal sweeter for the other guy. Didn't even have to risk not selling the extra bass, it was sold before I ordered.
The Capri bass arrived today, a quick neck swap, replaced the tuners with Gotoh FB30's, a set of Fender flats, and it's ready to go! I stupidly bought a parchment pickguard, but when I removed the OEM MIM pickguard... it was also parchment. Oh well.
I present to you, a Tidepool Player P, with a Pau Ferro fretboard. I am digging it.
I fitted ashtray/pickup covers as well, but I took them off while the neck and intonation settle down after the flats were fitted.
So far, loving it. These Player precisions are a good deal, in my opinion.

ha ! Thanks , That is my little 1 watt Firefly ,a good friend made that shell for it a few years back .

I have a bar on the back to attach it to as when I put the mount on the body the bass leans too much.
So, the swap took place!
Day Um! the Schecter’s neck is made to play!
I don’t think I’d ever seen a neck bolted on with 6 bolts.
Needs some Pledge and a new set of strings...but don’t we all?
I remember...it was shortly after relatively major surgery, 4 years ago when my Bride urged
me to get the Jag. I was enthralled!
(I’d never had a really Red bass before!)
I guess I was thinking very highly of myself...A New 5 String! I got this!
But I never really fell for it.
When I go for a 5 string, I reach(ed) for the Cort.
Jordan was a really nice guy. We spent an hour talking the bass and bassists.
He’s prolly half my age...much the same story, 30 years apart; getting ready to graduate college, gonna get a kick ass day job, and always play the bass as his Avocation, rather than as his livelihood.
He’s not a hobbyist.
It was a great hour spent...smiles all around...both very happy with the swap.

Wow, this thread could take a year to go through. Breezed through it enough to see some really nice instruments.
I'm re-entering bass world taking advantage of the cheap stuff. I'm quite impressed with the quality and tone of these critters. All you see in the picture is still less than what I paid for my 2000 Fender A. S. Precision.

So I picked up a brand new Fender Squier Bronco Bass for $100 and immediately set out to improve it. (Brand new as I’m purchased by someone and never played so technically “used” but straight out of the box)
I’ve had some elbow surgeries
and have been struggling with fretting the standard so in seeking a SS bass I found the 30” Bronco to be ideal. The Ibanez Mikro was TOO small.
Anyhow, I couldn’t be more pleased with the final results of what has been changed.
Strings were swapped to LaBella flats 40-100 which I paid $39 for.
Bridge was swapped for a Babicz FCH-4 at a cost of $129. This is worth every single penny.
Tuners swapped for Graph Tech tuners from Canada and these are brand new as the packaging wasn’t even ready yet. So I’m surely not the first with them but who knows.
They are worth every penny as well and night and day improvement obviously over stock. These were $100.
Stock pickup was swapped for a RTBV Razor Tele pickup 7.9k ohms. Perhaps there is better or something you prefer but I really do love this. Now, I’ve no clue what I think of Hot Rails/anything else anyone has tried but this was worth the price for $62.
Stock tone cap was swapped for Paper In Oil .047 at a cost of $14 and is definitely worth it.
I’ve $444 invested into this bass total now and perhaps it isn’t “worth it” to someone who will tell me it was foolish and to have bought a better bass but I am very happy with the end result for money spent.
I’m told it plays more like a $700 bass. This I don’t know. Heck the way I play it maybe brings it down to a buck and a quarter but you’ll have that.
It certainly plays a whole heck of a lot better than stock, is super light weight and so comfortable to play and while I do hope to have no issues playing standard again; this bass could be a life saver so far as playing again.
For home use it’s being played through a Rumble 40 which has been upgraded the @AstroSonic way which to many will again not be worth it based on putting coin into a practice amp but for me it was worth it.
Definitely lower lows and more volume with the Basslite S2010/lining/port tuning change so if anyone has been considering doing that to theirs then here is another vote of confidence toward the end results of that.

Awesome job Mister Monster. I intend to upgrade mine eventually once I learn bit more to get the tones I want. Are you as impressed as I am with the quality of the Indonesian stuff? Just getting back into the wonderful world of bass playing, I spent quite a few hours in my local music shops playing as many different basses as I could. I've found these guitars will hold their own as they are, upgrading will only make them better IMHO, thank you for qualifying that thought.
