is that oak? wow it looks like it.
IMO oak is the most beautiful wood for furniture and well ….. just about anything else.
and that grain definitely looks like oak.

Oak and Cherry, I often wondered what they would sound like as tone-woods.
I built a cherry hollow and found that the sound was amazing in spite of my inability to make the instrument look great. Now, seeing this, I really want an oak bass.

Here's most of mine.....

It’s Ash. It weighs enough to be Oak

+1

I’ve never played an Ibby that I didn’t like.
I have a lot of problems with the sound of the B string. Very different from the E, and basically terrible above the 6th or 7th fret. That's part of why I'm trying a multi scale bass...
(And yes. I'm a beginner, so this could all be user error, but i worked pretty hard with my instructor to try to improve things, tried different strings, worked on technique, etc)

Okay this happened. I mis measured on a DIY build. And figured using and this transforming it to a shortscale might fix it. It wouldn't as it looked odd. Body is already done.

Was going to send it back. Then my daughter saw it. She loved it. Unwrapped it further. Tuned it and plugged it in.
It plays really nice, sounds really nice. Even with the China strings.
So okay. She's staying. It weighs next to nothing. So for small gigs and long practices? Excellent.
Never played a shortscale before. It is fast, everything is close. It feels good, the lower tension make it feel buttery. Not going to upgrade this one. Except put some decent strings on. Pickup sounds good. Warm without mud and some nice zing in the top end. It is stupid how nice it is for 89 euro including shipping.
Harley Benton PB shorty.
