I made a thread about this bass but here’s my Grandfather’s bass that he is passing down to me

Headless 27" scale travel bass is progressing, I doubt you'll see much natural wood in the end...
It has taken 3 years to get it this far and a good bit still to do...

- Shaping headstock to remove almost everything (truss access will be above headpiece), might leave enough to be hangable
- Body is currently 3 parts (top, middle back) that still need to be glued together and shaped to uniformity
- finish control cavity (routed in back/middle, but top needs to be thinned enough for shafts to make it through) and pickup cavity (still a little tight)
- Determine any/all "comfort" contours once body is glued.
- Epoxy body with enough dazzle that @JIO will notice me!
- Nova Headless System
- Single Nordy Zen Blade (bridge wind)
- Volume P/P for series/parallel switch
- No tone control
- 24 fret 27" neck sourced from Ebay

You may want to drop this over at the Luthiers Corner - lots of very supportive and knowledgable peeps there. Will help getting 'sub'd'/followed.

Nova headless systems are sold on Ebay by @Passini.
He can tell you more but the cliff notes are that he offers them on plates (set spacing, but he has most of the standard spacings covered) or as separate tuners so you can make your own spacing.
Construction is mostly aluminum with brass saddles, string anchors and thrust bearing rings (I think this helps ensure there's not binding under tension).
They are extremely lightweight but seem well made. A nice alternative to the more expensive Hipshot and ABM offerings (not that I can ever find black ABM headless hardware in stock).

Wow - never seen that may of Greg's basses in one place - really nice!!!!!
I believe it is an early ‘66 based on the serial number with a ‘65 neck on it. Only way to be certain is to check pots

I was going by the un-bound neck w/pops, and hearing it's a '65 neck confirms that as pops started being installed on some late '65 J's. (early CBS)
That’s what I’ve seen on reverb and doing research on them. People with have unbound neck, serial numbers below mine with pops and have them listed as ‘65
