Both are nice but I'm more into the second one. I just can't get with the J/MM pickup configuration. That's just me. I know all the cool kids are doing it but it weirds my eyeballs out. I'm not cool so discard my opinion at will. Nice bodies though.

I'm not too confident on the J/MM style. I hardly hear about them or see them being demoed on YouTube. Best to play it safe with a traditional J style body. I'm leaning more to that route myself

There's Sandbergs and Laklands with that configuration just off the top of my head but don't trust my head. I'm frequently misshapen.

Let us not forget the coolest EBMM bass ever. The 4HS. There is a MC054W preamp on ebay now, for really cheap (no affiliation). And... you can get a 5 way switch from MM for 30 bucks. Get some Delano's (the Hybrid will give you a J, and MM), and RULE!!!

You could probably get a MM style pickup and have a switch installed so that you can isolate the rear coil only so that with the J pickup it would sound basically like a jazz bass. In fact, maybe you could get a 3 way switch for the MM pickup to be wired to go front coil, dual coil, rear coil. Then you can blend it with the jazz neck pickup and have 60's jazz, 70's jazz, and J/MM sounds.

Figured I'd drop this here since I'm looking into building my own 70's Jazz bass. Warmoth is such an addicting site lmao but I'm looking for that 70's tone for Funk. Already have a set of Fender PV Jazz pickups and I don't want to fork over $1-2k for a Geddy Lee or an AV.

Got this Hamer Chaparral Bass recently. I like it

Made 1991 I believe. Aftermarket Seymour Duncan pickups, not the original EMGs. I found it in the classifieds here locally (Iceland). It was left for some time without a bag or case in a loft of a youth center. The janitor looked for it with me on every floor until we found it behind an old drum set on the top floor. The owner was out of town at the time and needed the janitors help in finding it

It is not as clean as the photos suggest, it has many streaks in the finish. From the moment I played it unplugged with old strings it was clear that this is a quality instrument, it resonates and plays well.
