If you mean the pin beside the neck.

My dad lent me the money to buy that bass back in 71, and actually before he passed - he never heard me play in a band situation. He was a CWO4 in the Navy (Chief Warrant Officer) and after he passed I took one of his CWO4 pins and attached it to the bass.
