Being that you installed them on a ss J.., did you have paddle clearance issues? I installed Gotoh Res-o-lites on my Bass IV that is 34" scale but with a smallish hs and the paddles actually bump when tuning sometimes. (just barely) Nothing I can't live with as it's a great bass and the Gotoh tuners are so much nicer than what came on it.

Just picked this up earlier today. 40th anniversary Squier Jazz. Had zero intentions of buy it. Went into GC to get a CV 60s P bass that was on sale. Ended up leaving with this one and I love it. First Squier Ive owned that I dont feel the need to replace anything.

@BBassBassington, I would fill those holes and try again. I love those Hipshot things and have them on all my basses. I think it's good to get them exactly parallel with the nut, and the strings traveling in a straight line as possible. Easier said than done, but I know you could do better. Leaving the strings on is a help, you can use them to help locate the two mounting screw holes. Align carefully, use a center punch to mark the spots, drill, install.

Love that finish you did, gorgeous!

Not at all. The jazz is a made in Japan fender and the Ibanez tuners are the same. They fit perfectly.

Rickenbacker 4000's are fantastic basses! They may not get the same love as their brothers but I think they might be the best of the bunch.

Today I decided to play my four string basses. I have been leaning into my 5 strings lately and felt like they deserved some love. Let me reintroduce the King of Clank; my 1970 Fender Jazz Frankenstein bass.

1970 Fender Jazz body with modified horn for fret access, 1981 G&L L-1000 neck (crazy maple), Schaller tuners, 1981 EMG pick-ups (J-P configuration), Bartolini 2-band preamp, Kahler Whammy bar. Lake Placid blue, same color she was born with. Incredible action, 1-3/4" nut, super slim neck. Custom pick guard.

This bass clanks with the best of them. There is nothing else like it. It is one of a kind and mine all mine.

is the whammy 2 way or 1 way?

I could do better for sure, I just feel no need to fix it. Though it has been restrung so the strings are sitting a bit nicer. I've got no tuning or intonation issues, I don't gig, I don't have the right tools and I'm visually impaired so it's fine.

That said if I ever get a proper workspace and some good tools I will touch up all the things on my basses. I'm in that realm of I know what I'm doing but I don't have the right tools anyway so may as well just YOLO it and if it works it's good enough.

New bass day. Bought the used Warwick Rockbass Corvette a while back as a cheap replacement for my old Warwick Std. Ash. It's fun to play and sounds nice, but lacks that baseball neck I enjoyed so much. Got the Spector in the mail and it's probably the nicest bass I've played along with the Std. Ash Corvette I had. It doesn't have the fattest neck, but with it being 5 strings it seems very comfortable. Super happy with it so far, lots more playing to do.

Cool bass and all, but are you sure you don't mean 1991? An '81 had the original rounded-off pre-spike/point hs shape. As far as I've read, the spike/point design on L-basses was introduced in '82. It was first introduced in late '81 on the G-200.
