If it is those notes will leap off the board as you probably know, ebony is much tighter grain. Reminds me a bit of maple in tone. Maybe slightly darker but not as dark as rosewood. If you have a chance could we see some close pics of the board?

Is that a new-production American Professional II ? If you don't mind me asking, where did you find it?

I've been intending to add an AmPro II, (by co-incidence being somewhat egged-in by the SO) to replace a late model OW that I sold to a friend (without mentioning it... oops) who really-really wanted mine. I'm wanting to find the "right" one on the wall somewhere though. I love that feeling when it happens. Glad you did I'm really happy for you. That looks like a stunner.

Yes, it is an AmPro II and I got it at Dave's in LaX, WI. I've gone there for years and he's a super nice guy. It's my 3rd AmPro II and I love them. The V-Mod II pickups get mixed reviews but I like them myself. They aren't vintage sounding so much. A bit more tech sounding and articulate but I have things that make more traditional P sounds so I'm good with them. Great build quality and feel.

Man...I can't agree more. I really do love the AmPro IIs. I have a P in Dark Night and I actually have a white and maple J being delivered today!

There's very little out there that could tempt me, but a Warwick SC is right at the top of the short list. Been looking for a used one for a while. Gorgeous!

Here’s my 90s MIM Jazz V. Midnight blue (looks bluish or purple-ish depending on the light). It has EMG soap bars, active (I can’t remember the exact model but they’re early EMG).

I used to play a stock passive pup jazz (4 string) and kept both for awhile. Eventually this one won me over. I didn’t think the active EMGs would do it for me on my primary bass but I like how clean and full they are, as a starting point for further EQ down the signal chain.

Could be but I don't think they spec'ed ebony...just an amazingly good tree and luck.

A well lighted close up of the grain will help determine it. My '66 has very dark rosewood - but you just don't see that on a new Fender bass today.

Here's a fairly rare (Silver) Peavey Foundation with which I have been told has a one-off Ebony board... I like it but the Pink one plays way better...!

The color and the neck. I have a Hwy Jazz neck on a build and it's one of my favorites. Such nice necks. Great bass there. That black label with the 1 piece guard is cool too.

Did a thing today. Actually at the insistence of my wife. I pointed out the seriously black chunk of rosewood and she said get it so to keep the peace I had to take one for the team. That's lovely. I'd be tempted to hit up Decoboom to see if he could make a P Bass version of the guard like he did for the Fender "Parallel Universe" Jazz Strats that were in that color:

Oooohh, tre' chic. I like that. In real life it's such a weird color. It's like a trout or some fish lol. It sort of flips from a green to blueish, to chrome, just weird but my kind of weird. That guard is really cool.

I had to laugh though when I was picking it up at Dave's in Lax, WI and we were visiting and Dave said "it's a great color!" (pause) "you aren't going to paint it sparkle are you?" "No Dave, not this one."
