Mine was made in 2005. There were three different colors offered: initially just the cherry burst and tobacco burst (which had both the trans brown and black backs), both with 4- and 5-string versions. Later the matte black was added. I believe in 2007 they discontinued the cherry burst finish, and in 2008 stopped production of this model.

EDIT: I bought mine used here on TB 15 years ago.

I was not aware they made a matte black version. ('08) Super BA! Now I'm going to look for one!

update: none available on eBay or Reverb right now - only a 5'r version.

The L1K is amazing. Had one in the early 80s with a mahogany body and it a was massive tone jubilee.

The L1K are amazing. Had one in the early 80s with a mahogany body and it a was massive tone jubilee.

Yes, I had a mahogany wunkay waaaay back and it was really nice. But after that, a few Rics, a couple of Gibsons, and a few 'Rays I found my comfort zone with Fenders. This is the first non-Fender I've had in years. It is going to be fun. That first wunkay is in a tiny list of ones I miss. Now I feel better. I had been oogling it at my favorite shop for a few weeks, had a Strat just sitting there (I'm a Jazzmaster guy, albeit a hack) so I said "You're outta here" and did the deal. Just as nice as I remember!

So I have fallen back in love with my Squier Fretless Vintage Modified Jazz Bass. I bought it used for $189 off of Reverb about six years ago. The Duncan Designed pickups sound freaking awesome. The Ernie Ball Cobalt Flats crisply sing with the tone off and have the velvet glove sound with the tone on full. The neck is super fast and thin and has some nice flaming on the back. It plays like a dream.

It just does everything a fretless jazz bass should do and does it incredibly well.

I googled the CE sticker and found out:
It's officially called the "CE marking," and it means that the product complies with the international technical and safety standards issued by the European Union, previously known as the European Community (hence CE).

But the question is what does the sticker on the back of the neck plate mean?
You can't just throw it in a standard trash can?
I don't get it. Can someone with the answer chime in to satisfy my curiosity?
