My trusty 1979 Madiera short scale. Schaller Bassbucker pickups wired for coil tapping and Schaller Badass bridge. This little gem feels so comfortable to play. The action is set low and it responds to a light touch. I can play it for hours on end with no fatigue.
It's a perfect match with my Ampeg for that big, fat, vintage Motown sound.

Gorgeous! What are those screws high up on the fretboard? Is there a pickup on the underside?
I was wondering the same. Looks like a pickup to me.
Yes, those are the pole pieces of a custom made single coil PU underneeth the fretboard. There's also a piezo in the bridge. With a blend pot the two PU's can be mixed. the result is a beautifull thick sound, almost like an upright!

Updated my Squier Classic Vibe 60s P Bass
I sanded back the neck. I hate a glossy neck, so this was a must. Also, like all Laurel boards, I had to oil it up.
I changed the pickguard from the tort to a 3 ply black. The tort was fine, but I thought the black was a classic look.
The pickups sounded fine, if a little bright. My problem with them was an unusual amount of noise. Hum and for some reason static when I touched the pickguard. No idea why. I made sure everything was shielded, but it didn't get better. I put in Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders and got an Obsidian solderless harness. Put on better chrome knobs to top it off.
Final change is the bridge. The stock bridge was fine, but I don't care for the vintage saddles. I grabbed a player series bridge off Stratosphere and it was a drop in replacement.

Unless you changed the fingerboard, those came stock with ebanol. I used to own one. They're really nice basses.
It's real convenient. The stock mini pots weren't the best and I'm bad enough at soldering to try an entirely new setup with new pots, so this was the easiest method.
Cheaper/faster than having a tech do it too

Reinforced CF beam so that the neck can't bend/twist. It's an attractive feature though I'm sure someone somewhere would want to adjust the relief one way or another...
Kind of like the Iphone of bass necks...

My '68 Coral Deluxe Bass and Silvertone 1443 Hornets (Dano built) of the same year have twin steel beams/no tr. A bit of weight so a tendency to neck-dive, but the predecessor of those CF beams.
Metal button for the 'tilt neck' bolt to stop against. Steel beams filled the two slots.
I got one of these last year and put in the same pickup. It’s funny you mentioned having to tilt the pickup. I did the exact same thing to mine.Still waiting on a black pickguard, but I swapped the knobs and put in a GFS Lil Killer 10k middle position pickup.
The original pickup honestly isn't terrible, but the single coil hum had to go. The new one sounds really nice and easy to install with their solderless setup. I'm very very suprised at how much this sounds like a P Bass.
I did have to tilt the pickup higher on the bass side a lot more than the treble side. For whatever reason this bass doesn't ring very loud on the E, but I'm super happy with it. Ever since I got this it's been my main bass I go to. The scale makes it so fun to play.
