That Cowpoke Special is gorgeous. I don't know that I have ever seen one like that. I haven't seen many but that one is stunning..

In addition to replacing the stock pickups with a set of Aeros, I replaced the knobs and bridge. It's otherwise stock, so I think it's mostly just good lighting.

I’ve just finished modding my Sire P5 five string.
I love my G&L Kiloton, Rickenbacker 4003, Fender Cowpoke & Sire V7 but this P5 when I first picked it up was easily the best finished and most comfortable instrument I’ve ever played.
So I set about making it perfect for the band I’m in.
The result colossally exceeds my expectations.
Essentially the way that rotary switch is wired it isolates different components into isolated discreet circuits (I.E. in “Thump” only the P pickup, the volume & the TBX are in the circuit. The J pickup & the blend knob are isolated out of the circuit) make it in two three entirely different basses in one and they all sound amazing.

The circuit is unique as far as I’m aware. It sounds epic in all three modes and all three have a huge palette of tones because of the TBX control.

There is “Duff McKagan Jazz Special” mode which is “Blend”.

“Super Charged Precision” in “Thump”

And the “Growl” mode which I thought would be useless is actually really aggressive and useable. I can almost get Rickenbacker like tones out of it.


I made it as a “Rock Machine” because my band is plays original Alt Rock but it actually slaps like a f**king demon. I’d absolutely use it in a funk band.

Those pickups are SO good. I can’t believe I managed to get them for £90 second hand

The 300 (MIJ) was my first bass, actually. Yes, it's not the lightest (and its neck may not be your thing, too), but it is a well-built, good sounding piece of Ibanez. I like it so much that I recently got another (MII) ATK 300, cheap but in a better shape.

90's Brian Moore i2000-4B. MIK. This is another hidden gem that both surprised and grabbed me like my Peavey Rudy Sarzo! I took a chance with As-Is and it paid off. It is truly mint. Light with great balance. Neck is flat and thin with very small frets - fingering care required. Bart pu's and Cort 3 band pre. Will gig it this weekend, I like what I'm hearing so far!

Never played one of their basses, but their guitars were great. I'm sure the same quality holds true of the low-end stuff. Looks killer, congrats

Thanks. I understand these were made by Cort and comparable to their Artisan series. Build is first rate, like Epi. Yes, a good day indeed when you are happy with a bass bought blind! Recommended!

Which one is your "go to"?

My go to is the Dingwall- all day long.
The Bogart arrived 2 years ago needing a fair bit of work doing to it- brand new build to my spec. Spent a bit getting it sorted. Was a 50th present to myself, and sort of spoilt the magic of it really. It plays quite nicely now, yet it’s up for sale on Basschat.
The Modulus is fantastic, yet I’ve struggled to gel with it after a year’s ownership. I play it a lot at home, yet this weekend will be the first time to get an airing - at a big wedding gig. Also for sale on Basschat.
So it’s the Dingwall every time for me- just a killer bass
