I've encountered poor wiring on "real" Warwicks many times. That could be the same issue in this particular case.

On new basses direct from the factory or distrubutor?
I've seen the QC standards & poorly wired basses do not leave the factory,ever.
There will always be dealers (usually employees) that stuff around with these things & make a mess of things.I once told a shop's tech one of their basses needed a battery change & this "tech" decided the preamp was shot,without even reaching for the multimeter & doing any checks or first changing batteries.He swapped the dead battery pre for another,identical MEC pre & made it look like a blind chimp had done the work.The poor bastard of a bass went back up on the wall like that giving any unsuspecting potential customer the impression that Warwick do an exceptionally dodgy job at wiring.Not everyone would think,why would they source some of the best woods available in the world,ship them from Africa to Germany,assemble them using the latest,best & most technologically advanced machinery in the world(often designed & built by Warwick in-house),only to leave the back bone of the instrument(the electronics) in such a poor state of repair it puts any potential customer off the brand for life.
I dont wanna sound like an arse kisser mate,just wanted to set the record straight for everyone.

Well I'm just telling what I've seen on some "entry-level" instruments. No offence to my (truly) beloved company in general intended. The basses were: a Corvette Std. from BassCentral, another Std. (but ash) from Slami (in Moscow) and an HH from oul local distributor. Hmm... all 'vettes... :scowl:

In my experience, entry level warwick, not rock bass, are better built than many higher end models from other companies. Gibsons always felt cheap and didnt justify their price.

Hey Everybody,

I just bought a Warwick the other day. Here it is, my 1998 Warwick Corvette Standard Fretless (November 1998).

When funding allows, upgrades may include wooden knobs from THG knobs, black hardware, and DR black strings. This bass is SUPER deep, and gets a great sound. My ONLY complaint is the weight. It was a chore to keep this badboy on during a couple hour rehearsal the other night! I think I'll toughen up though, since it sounds decent.

A couple of questions for Warwick fans (since I'm a newb), if possible:

1. Is this a Wenge neck? It feels nice & smooth, so whatever it is, it works.
2. What is the radius on a Corvette Std F-less? It feels & looks almost completely flat. Again - no complaint, just asking.

Yep, that's definately a wenge neck! Congrats. And yes, if it's your first Warwick it'll take a bit of time to get used to the weight (or balance in the case of some instruments, like Thumbs), but after a week or so it won't be a problem.

Yeah, Wenge. Your bass must have been built just before they stopped using Wenge for necks because it has a just-a-nut II on it. I believe a 4 string warwick's radius is 20".

Bubinga = heavy.

i love my mint '06 vette std fl , too ! it is the best bass machine!


i like the idea of wooden knobs .

i have some nice jatoba/ brazil -cherry that should match
nicely w/ the ovangkol neck /bubba body.

if i can do them this week, i'll show them off.

When the retainer tabs on the just a nut 2 snap off,& they will eventually,the strings will keep it in place.If you upgrade it to the latest model just a nut (3),you'll have to be carefull when chamnging strings as there's nothing to stop it falling off & going between the floor boards into the ceiling crawl space between your groovy little hippy pad & the Vietnamese restaurant downstairs.
just remember to make sure the dealer knows your bass is either fretted or fretless when ordering a new nut.G'luck with ya nuts there guys.

Here's my newer corvette standard fretless. Bubinga body/ovangkol neck... The band loves it when I pull her out for a song or two, great sound in live settings that cuts through without being overbearing.

Here are two wicks. The red is a 2005 custom. It has a Noll preamp and bass culture neo pickups and a neck with flame inlays. The other is an ugly pic of me playing my 2007 Streamer Jazzman 4 on stage. I will post my others later! I love 'wicks!

Just traded my trademark Ibanez ATK 305 (which I paid 325 for) for a well-loved '95 Fortress One Masterman the other day! It's got the most beautiful wenge board/neck you've ever seen.

Both bone stock ATM, and unless something wicked this way comes the fretless will probably stay that way...I do keep going back and forth over the PU's in the Katana...I guess I haven't found anything that just floors me enough to want to do that work yet.
