I have the worst gas for a Streamer Stage One. It's the one bass that I always want to try out. I know I love the sounds it makes... Now I'm just going to move some gear around and try to make owning one a reality. I could definitely see it becoming my main bass.

Is the 20mm spacing that much to get used to? I really liked the 19mm spacing on my old sadowsky... 1 more mm shouldn't be that hard, should it?

My 2005 Lefty Thumb 5 (BO). The only thing I have done to it was put some custom wooden knobs on.

The 20mm or broadneck spacing feels almost the same as 19mm spacing that you loved on your Sadowsky.

sorry for incredibly delayed reply...this thread has stopped updating in my timezone for some reason :( only just thought to check. But i tend to use duracells, and I think it may be the fact I keep forgetting to unplug it...didn't even occur to me!

Thanks for the advice. Anyone seen the new warwicks btw? I love the shape of the Zender signature. Just have it redone with a zebrano top, maple fretboard, natural oil finish and some orange LEDs instead of the inlays and I'd be a very happy man :D

Someone who knows about Warwick history...

Is there really that much of a difference between the new Streamer Stage 1s and the ones from the early 90s? I would love to hold out for whichever is better. I'm just a zender-maniac and love his tone, but I hear the MEC pickups leave a lot to be desired...

You really need to let YOUR ears decide if that's true rather than take notice of gossip.
MEC was founded by Vlado Hansal,in house at Warwick,by Warwick & for Warwick.No other pickups match Warwick basses better than MEC.They also offer LED's via their custom shop.They are seriously good pickups & electronics.
Now as for vintage V's new Warwicks,that's also a matter of opinion,but one thing's for sure.They didnt make them then,like they do now.The tolerances Warwick build basses by are virtually unmatched in terms of consistency & attention to detail.The only reason I'd buy a vintage Warwick over a new one would only be money.Used Warwicks are much cheaper than new ones,so if you dont have alot to spend,go for a used model.If you know which model you want & have no intention of selling it,but want to play it onto the ground,buy a new model.That's not to say the older models wont hold up any better.I know players that bought theirs new 20 years ago & they're still on their original frets.Most of these people are pros that really "use" their gear.
Now if you're a Stuart Zender fan,Warwick are about to release the Stuart Zender signature bass at the upcoming NAMM show.It's a new shape entirely,is slab bodied rather than contoured like his old stage 1's.

I have a question about MEC pickups. On the Thumb, there are those diagonal Jazz pickups. Are they standard sized Jazz pickups, only rotated, or are they different, longer ones to compensate for the angle? Could I take another pickup brand's Jazz pickups and just place them in diagonally, or would they be too short?
