yeah that's the sticking point for many, that and the weight. I own 6 Warwicks, and the Katana has my favorite sound. No doubt the Thumbs are unique in tone (and I own 3), but that Katana sings.

Happy new Thumb owner here.

Managed to find a left handed Thumb NT 5 from 1990 in mint condition (Well, previous owner had reversed the nut and saddles so he could play right handed, but that took 10 minutes to sort out).

Nice! Were the pickups replaced? Mine had Duncan actives with Dip switches.. it was a little later though.

According to the email I received from Hans Peter Wilfer, it was born with Bartolonis. My guess is that the early ones were a mix of Duncan, Barts and EMG.

I just finished a complete setup, popped in a fresh 9V battery and hooked her up.

Still picking up the pieces that are left from the house. This bass.... Oh my god, I owned so many basses, but this one punches and growls like a pissed off Honey badger - Even my wife who is ultra conservative about when it comes to 'tone' came in and just smiled and nodded.

Damn... I still feel a shiver going up my spine.

Yeah that tone is definitely addictive Does it have the stock MEC preamp? Mine came with a retrofitted Aguilar OBP3, it's a great preamp but I suspect it kills some of the growl I like.
