Usually I play metal on my Thumb BO4 (2001, ovangkol) but sometimes I record fusion/funk tunes and they still sound great with this bass, very versatile sounding instrument !
Hey Warwick friends. Question for just ya'll: should I keep my 1999 F.N.A stock or should I change the Seymour Duncan preamp out? It's really really really bright sounding, and works great, but I need to use a lot of post bass EQ'ing like through my tube pre to increase the growl, and then again through a custom Guitar overdrive to retain the cut through chimey sound when playing metal with my wife. My whole sound is basically through effects, and I would rather have the opportunity to just "plug in". I have everything onboard set to neutral because I tend to save that for fine tuning, and I'm also one of those guys that plays through a Markbass with everything also set to neutral (for if I have to ever override something or someone on the spot).
And for those wondering, I bought it for the playability compared to every other 5 string I've played or owned. I figured my pedalboard and etc would fix the final tone, and is does.
Edit: also are there certain strings that sound certain ways on these Warwick's?

I've got an FNA Jazzman with the MEC preamp. Much of the time I run it passive with the MM pickup 100%. I've never tried one with a Duncan preamp. As for strings I like Ken Smith taper core stainless (which I think are made by GHS). My bass has got a very low-mids-forward tone and the Smith strings help balance it out a bit cause they are crisp but have good low end response too.
I just put a Darkglass tone capsule in a bass with 2 Aguilar DCB humbuckers and I really like it.
Both, haven't played it live yet, but sounds great at home. This one has sat at the top of my bass bucket list for years. Definitely a keeper.

The regular FNA without the Jazz pickup came standard with the Duncan pre, and a push pull EQ scoop for slap mode.
I'm going to definitely try those strings first. Strings are like tires. First contact of any performance.
I have a little attachment for my drill. Just plugs in like any drill bit.
