I have been interested in picking up a Warwick, but I'm not sure if they will fit my profile. I am a big Spector /Stingray guy. I prefer a chunkier neck with something wider than 1.5" at the nut.

I love the growl of the Bubinga/Ovangkol Corvette Standards, but I am put off by the weight (under 10 pounds is ok, but do these specimens exist with this model)? The thumbs seem cool, but I abhor neck dive, and I've heard these have that malady in spades.

The Streamers are appealing, as they share the same NS design as my beloved Spectors.

I get a bit confused about the neck specs on these. I think there was a period where the necks were chunkier, then went back to thinner profiles? Are there any models with nut widths wider than 1.5"?

I'd love to try some out, but there's no place near me to do.

In a nutshell, I'm looking for a growly, chunky neck, Warwick that weighs under 10 pounds and has no balance (neck dive) issues.

Any guidance from the experts would be much appreciated.

My Corvette FNA Jazzman fits that description.

It's a 2005 and has the thicker, D-shape neck, the body is ash with maple top and it's around 8.5 lbs. There is zero neck dive though a vette feels a little different than a typical bass, I think it's because the top is essentially flat just with a really big round-over. Without an arm relief it just ends up sitting a little differently, but that's not to say it's uncomfortable.

Sounds like ideal for you would be a mid 2000s Streamer Jazzman

I like the Corvette FNA Jazzman, Corvette Taranis and the Streamer. I own both Streamer & Taranis, (I'm selling my Taranis with Delano pups/preamp).
The FNA/Taranis have a chunkier neck profile than the Streamer, at least mine does. I sold the FNA years ago. The Streamer is my #1 ATM.
My '94 Streamer BO has a thinner neck profile, (than the FNA/Taranis/Spector), and sits further back enough for my hands to land in the correct spot than a Spector. (I feel a left hand reach and right hand lands too close to the bridge w/Spector). (Hope this is of some help)

I might be putting my FNA Jazzman up for sale soon but it has an asymetrical neck. There were three profiles they did. C, D, and asymetrical. The asymetrical is a rarity as far as I know. I also have a German Corvette standard with the thin c and have owned Thumbs (thin) and a Streamer(thin). I've also owned a few Spectors. My Streamer neck was thin and very comfortable. The neck dive on my 90's Thumb never bothered me. One of my favorite basses ever actually. I think you would feel the aasymetrical would be familiar but differant and enjoyable. It's not as pronounced as the Tobias necks and much chunkier. It actually took me a few months to realize that was what I had! The D would be very familiar to you. I never played the ovankol neck on my Corvette's next to my Thumbs as I sold my Thumb some time ago, but I don't notice much of a differance beyond the texture feel of the necks. Ovangkol seems smoother to me. Good luck! They are a great bass company.

I don't think this is accurate. I have an 02 Corvette Std. It has a very thin neck profile at the nut. I've been playing Spectors the last few years and to me are much more comfortable than the Corvette and much lighter! Having said that, I'm always looking for a Streamer.

Wenge is also heavier and more stable wood. Those necks aren't more desirable for no reason.

yeah, like I said, just a guess based on what people have said over the years. Seems it was sometime early in the 2000s but I'm not sure when. Someone could always email HPW to ask.

What I've actually noticed is, the flagship higher end models that are considered "baseball bat neck era" have much less baseball bat feeling necks. The only Warwicks that I can recall having feeling like they have huge squared off necks with the flat spot are Corvettes and mid tier models. I've had 3 mid 2000s Warwicks and non of them had that type of neck. Wait. Actually 4. 2006 P-Nut II #19, 2008 Warwick Thumb 6 NT, 2006 P-Nut II #29, and now currently my 2006 Dolphin Pro 1 5-string.

All I know is my 2006 Katana neck is like a tree trunk lol. Between that neck and the weight I don't play it anymore. My 2014 Streamer neck is much slimmer and easier on my hand. I've got a nerve issue in my fretting hand so I need slimmer necks now. That being said, my Katana is my favorite sounding bass.

So can we say with any certainty which bolt on models have a wider nut than 1 1/2"?

It's kind of important to me. I'm on a desperate hunt for a bolt on 4 string warwick with a 1 5/8" or wider nut.

It's silly going on reverb and asking every owner the nut width but thats what I've been doing so far with no luck.

So if someone chimed in "my so and so year so and so model has a wide nut" that would really help narrow my search.
