You need extra long scale;)

I cant remember the last time I had roundwounds on my thumb BO 5...for a couple years I used rotosound nylon wrapped flats and now i've got a nice old set of d'addario chromes on it...i toy with the idea of going back to rounds, but i doubt i will...it just feels and sounds right with flats

According to an article a while ago in Bass Player, one of the basses in Pino Palladino's collection is a Thumb 5 with TI flats.

Good enough for me:)

@RavCat: man, you put a JAN 1 on the bass ? Any difference tone-wise ?

Not really tone wise, although there may be a little extra sustain on the open strings. I only replaced it because my JAN II snapped, but if I were to have another CS Warwick, I'd definitely have another JAN I installed.

Looks-wise, I think it's a vast improvement and is a much better match for gold hardware, but I've not tried a JAN III, and with black hardware like yours, the III may be a better match. If it ain't broke....

JAN II's have what people refer to as "butterfly" tabs on them. If you loosen the strings in a careless way, the tight strings will flip the top of the nut and break the tab. This is why you should always loosen all the strings at once, and do the outside strings first.

The Jan III, from what I hear, is a replacement to that top part of the Jan II. It uses a different shape, one that should not have the risk of breaking like the thin tabs before.

i have a 98 corvette std 5 w/ a wenge neck and board in the mail as i type. i can't wait. do i have to post pics before i can join the club? :)

ohhhh the tone on those! I have one too. Its a 99 ..must have been one of the absolute last ones off the line with an all wenge neck. Supposedly they quit using all wenge b.f. '99 but mine's living proof they didn't until slightly later....unless i'm just special ...

Ya mine is broken like that on my SSII from one of the previous owners... It doesn't really affect anything but cosmetics, fortunately. I will probably get the JAN III to replace it at some point, especially since they are giving them away to warwick owners free who have JAN II's. Details on how to get one are Invalid Link Removed.
