ironing boards are kinda unstable...I go with a towel on my coffee table for changing strings

With TI Jazz Flats on dang-near every bass now, I can't afford to change strings anymore... then again, they're TI Jazz Flats. Don't need to change them.

Me too, never had to change my Rotosounds.
Yet, what about care and maintenance, where do you do that?
Like cleaning, polishing, waxing, for example.
I clamp my bass down in this:
I do a ton of work on this little thing. Sure, I'd like to have a big table with a big workspace with all my tools organized in one room rather than scatterted all over the house and at work, but for now I am using my cheap foldy clamp table.

One could cover an ironing board in old tort pickguards ........................
I do all my non-soldering work on my sofa watching Netflix. Plenty of space, and generally the instrument is on its strap around my neck in playing position as I work.
If I need to do something more involved, such as removing the pickguard on my Precision, I lay the bass on the sofa and kneel by it.

I doubt gravity has enough affect on the actual setup of the bass. However, based on my experience, it does affect the tuning somewhat.
We have two young kids who like to go to the library. I'm also equipped to make serious references to the dinosaurs.
The ironing board idea is actually pretty slick. I will try it next time. I have plenty of space but the size, shape, height and softness of the cover of an ironing board all seem pretty perfect for the job.
So if my action is a little high, I just have to lean forward, and tilt my bass until the strings are pointing toward the floor! Cool!

I actually have a shop set up for working on upright basses, but my bass guitars have seldom if ever been in there.
Just a plush blanket on the kitchen table is fine for what little care/maintenance I do.
We don't "change" them...we take 'em off, boil 'em, then iron them to restore the flatness before putting 'em back on.

Only applies to 'green' necks, and if you have one, Jolly Green Gigantic bassist, you need to get your peas checked...
