Not really a secret. Lots of us use rounds on fretless. There is nothing like them!
Nickel roundwounds are the way to go. Life is too short to play flats.
Anyone have an audio clip of fretless with flatwounds? I’m curious to hear what they sound like.

Reply to my own question FWIW. I suspect the medium guage is more common, but I got a set of the lights, 40 -120.
They're pretty much what you might expect, bright, lively, lower tension compared to the more standard 45- 130 or -125 that I've been used to. I thought I might have to adjust the bridge saddles but the string height is still OK.
One of my tests is the timbre of G on the E string above the octive. I play a lot of Bach and spend a bit of time up there. A lot of strings sound dull on that note, maybe its it's just something in my hearing. These come across nicely, more ring and clarity. That could be said for them in general.
Not sure if they'll replace my old favorite D'addario EXLs but I see the appeal. Thanks for the tip on the deal at Fretnation!
Not flatwounds, but I recorded two songs with the silky smooth LaBella Copper Tapewound strings (they're now on my Dimension). Recording chain: Pedulla Pentabuzz 80% bridge pickup + thunderguts switch on + slight 5% treble roll off + 5% bass boost > Avalon U5 > RME Multiface II interface > PreSonus S1 with a bit of compression applied to it afterwards (and a bit of corrective eq to make it pop out of a mix that already has bass, which I removed by a high pass filter).
For reference, here's an old clip (with my very slow webcam) in the same recording setup and bass settings. You'll hear it has more bite. Despite the worse video quality, in regard to audio treatment it's 99% the same.

Just to show my Pedulla Bass #5793 , it is in a superb condition with all factory "candies " included . It has a super fast , straight and fast neck ... a beautiful flamed maple wings and Ebony FB.Although I have a lot of basses , I still a "dumb" about Pedulla instruments . based on serial number Do you know the year of this bass ? Thanks
